And there was me thinking we'd have to wait until the train back from the first home match of the season after you've had 5 pints of Jaipur to get it out of you ;)

Sorry ZoneManWilf - now if you'd said you'd buy me 5 pints of Jaipur to spill the beans, I would have kept mi gob shut! ;)

I was in York Designer Outlet today with Mrs BoSS and I saw a Blade shirt. I went over to chat - as you do - and I said, "Go on then, NC yes or no?"

He said "He was sacked at 12 o clock."

You could hear both my chins :)D) clang as my jaw dropped.

Anyway, I guess it's fair enough to spill the beans now.

It was actually Neil Collins and I was very surprised to see him in the David Lloyd Club Leeds where Mrs BoSS and I are members.

You get quite a few sportspeople going there, Yorkshire cricket, Leeds RL (Ellery Hanley is a member for example) and TV people such as one of the dancers from Strictly, and actors such as her from Emmerdale whose name I can never remember, and Derek Fowlds when he is filming Heartbeat.

I often used to chat to Nick Montgomery and others as well.
,
They come and go just like ordinary members and we don't talk shop but the footballers are very pleased to chat football especially when they know you're a Blade!

Some nice things have been said about my OP and I appreciate that; for those who scoffed, well fair play to you (I wasn't upset by the way) but at no time did I do anything other than report a conversation and the only reason I did was because of the way he said "I wouldn't be so sure of that." when I said about NC being here for another season.

To be honest, I am still surprised as I did think they would give him until Christmas; they really do have to get it right this time don't they?

I think we should be grateful to NC in many ways as despite his obvious failings, he steadied the ship, gave us a fabulous first season in the League, semifinals in the FA and League Cups as well as reaching the play-offs this last season. He called us a proper football club and he was right in so many ways and he was good for us in so many ways - but not where it mattered unfortunately.

I've no doubt they have somebody lined up so let the speculation begin.

Good luck Mr Clough and thank you

I agree BoS, Clough didn't get it all wrong and good luck to him.

The one part I find intriguing, in your report above, is I am left wondering if Neil Collins really new something or was just being hopeful that NC was on his way out?

If he knew, then I assume the decision had been made (and made public within the club) that NC was going, so why wait until now to announce?

Won't say who or where but we had a chat about the place we were in, football and SUFC obviously.

I said at one point, "Well, anyway, we have Cloughy for next season."

He said, "I wouldn't be too sure about that." The way he said it surprised me and I could tell he meant it.

I didn't dare ask him exactly what he was getting at - bit to much to ask I thought and anyway he was out with his little boy.

I understand from elsewhere that JP is over soon so it may be a case of watch this space, or same owd, same owd, who knows?

Interesting times but I hope we know one way or t'other next week
Have a retrospective like from me BOS

Generally the timing of the announcement is agreed between both parties after severance terms have been agreed. Not unreasonable for this to take a few days

I got the impression that he maybe sensed something but I'm not going to speculate and as I said, he didn't actually say NC was on his way out.

Had he done so, I definitely wouldn't have named him.

It was inappropriate to probe further; he'd said enough for me and I know the conversation at that point made him uncomfortable so I changed the subject.

I heard that the dressing room was getting increasingly hostile and players getting berated, in true face stuff, for making mistakes. There was a rigid zonal system that meant players were only allowed to play in certain areas of the pitch. If players went against the instructions they wouldn't last long.

My view is that the new bread of manager is successful doing what Eddie Howe, Warburton, and Karl Robinson is doing. Goals, goals, goals - pressing, width, pace, swift and slick from back to front. Not 1-0 shut up shop. Especially when you don't have defenders worthy of the name

Did Collins say anything about him being left out for most of the season? And did you ask him where he thinks he will be next season?

I heard a runour earlier today that it all blew up last night, but not sure if that is accurate or not.

I've heard this too - that we were originally set to keep Clough but something happened

The weird rumour I have heard is that the board (the Prince) had offered Clough more money, to rebuild the team this summer, and Clough had turned it down, saying he only needed a couple of players and everyone else was staying put, which ended up leading to an argument about what was needed to get us out of League One. Like I say, a rumour only.
