We have an American (who has admitted that football is new to him) and a Turk (whose country that football clubs are always changing managers) that are strong influences in making decisions at SUFC but they seem to listen too much to complaints from fans (most of them have no experience in professional football) on team selection, tactics etc and I think this is a dangerous thing to do. I am REALLY SICK of SUFC having to start all over again by appointing managers every one or two years (we have had 11 different managers since 2007), bringing in and getting rid of so many players. I do fear that it will be more than 6 successive seasons before we get back to the top two divisions

I genuinely believe the Board wanted to stick with him but I can totally understand why they couldn't see enough evidence to be convinced that next year would be any different. We don't need to be a project or build anything. We need to get out of League 1! Then we build in the Championship.

Phipps and Baki are the best people we've had for years with the exception of Derek Dooley. Communication is excellent and I think they *get* SUFC.

We now need someone with a good track records of promotion. Adkins, Evans or Bob Bradley (Bergen suggested him!) for me!

I thought we had a better chance of going up if Clough stayed with us. Just a few more signings and we should be there. ATM we dont know who the next manager is and he is likely to bring changes to the squad and usually this takes a long time before we get the right squad

I do agree with this point Silent. I actually got shot down a few weeks ago (I've no problem with that because we don't al share the same opinions on everything) for suggesting that Cough was only allowed to spend all that money on Brayford because The board (Phipps & Saki possibly) knew the fans wanted it. If the fans hadn't been so in support of signing Brayford I doubt very much they would have sanctioned the expenditure. As you say, if this is happening then it's very dangerous because the people in charge have to remove themselves from the passion we have as supporters.

I think the board were probably surprised to see their record signing being played at centre back. Lets face it, the Brayford of Clough's first season we all wanted here - so you cant blame Phipps and co for that.

i understand where you,re coming from silent and that is what has happened in the past.but he has gone now and much to our frustration we move on .i like you have been a supporter of clough and hoped he was the right man.
The board must have felt that the centre back problems were an embarrament too far and clough has carried the can for this.On reflection and much disappointment this and maybe saving the budget to buy a full back(when we had more pressing needs) has cost him the time he needed to finish the team building he had in mind.The axe has fallen we have got to get it right this time. how many times has that phrase been used.

The new manager will want to make a lot of changes to the squad and will he be able to do this within the FFP rules? Yes you are right about signing Brayford. I like him but I was feeling very uneasy with how much we had spent on him

I didn't have faith that NC knew what to do in regards to getting us to that next level. It was plainly obvious what our problem had been throughout the season (defence) yet he never addressed it. That smacks of poor planning and bad management. His time was up IMO. To have a budget as large as ours and fail so miserably is pretty indefensible. Any manager worth his salt would've got us up or much closer to it than we did. Why were Bristol so far ahead of us given our relative positions last season and our resources this?

I'm not blaming anyone Kev, I was as happy as anyone when we signed him. I just wonder whether fan power played a part?

Your guess is as good as mine mate.

We said that last year though and he utterly ballsed up the summer transfer window. In my opinion his downfall goes back to that.

I liked Clough but he seemed to contradict his own ideas on team building. He talked a lot about a small squad then ended up with a huge one. Talked about only bringing in players that improved the quality of the team but many signings were no better than what we already had.

I'm not sure how much faith I would have in him doing better this time around.

I do think we have a good squad in the making with the addition of the obvious CB positions, a new manager needs to get them working as a whole unit, yes some players will have to go but all in all looking forward to next season, hopefully with a manager who will motivate the players and lead us to glory.

There's nothing left than to be positive I guess. As long as we get a couple of commanding CH's, a dynamo in midfield who'll strengthen that part of the team along with Basham, and a decent forward who can add experience, nous, and is savvy as fuck and knows how to play a defender like a piano.

probably just as sick as i was of our manager falling out with players and picking a totally different lineup for every match.. this was a good decision. we were going nowhere and turning into Derby reserves reunion 11
