This is what NC has in mind

Blitzkrieg
(German, "lightning war is an anglicised term describing a method of warfare whereby an attacking force spearheaded by a dense concentration of armoured and motorized or mechanized infantryformations, and heavily backed up by close air support, forces a breakthrough into the enemy's line of defense through a series of short, fast, powerful attacks; and once in the enemy's territory, proceeds to dislocate them using speed and surprise, and then encircle them. Through the employment of combined arms in maneuver warfare, the blitzkrieg attempts to unbalance the enemy by making it difficult for them to respond effectively to the continuously changing front, and defeat them through a decisive battle of annihilation.

Well at least a change from James Shields usual reporting.

It's time he stopped referring to the Blades 'transfer war chest'. He's been using this since 2006.

I would imagine our war chest is similar to Accrington's.

There has to be a statement from the board ASAP as it's evident that there is still a lot of speculation surrounding Clough's future. A decision must of been made by now so why there hasn't already been a statement is beyond me.

Either way, whether Clough is here for next season or not, the fans deserve to know what is going on at their football club, also all rumours would be put to bed and we will actually be able to concentrate on signing some decent players for next season.

The JP Twatter machines bust, used to be the fax mchine but I suppose that's progress

I made my feelings clear after the playoff defeat that I wanted Clough gone, but FFS can they get a move on and decide one way or another? I'll support him if he's still here

Exactly - there could be the scenario where the board are clearly not happy but he could be staying anyway. The player may just be relaying that it's not a "cut and dried" decision that he's going to stay.

Exactly

Well yeah, that's what rumours are. Clough might be sacked tomorrow or he might have a job for life. We'll find out over the next few weeks if there is any truth in what the OP was told.

I wasn't told anything, I merely reported a conversation.

It's great the way this thread has meandered from a reported conversation to a discussion of German military tactics in World War II - don't you just love this forum and the posters on it? :)

Why do we need a statement ? Just assume Clough is in charge until we are told otherwise

Maybe they think that the fact that he's been allowed to decide on the retain list and that by this time we are probably working on his transfer targets shows that he's staying, no real need for a statement.

The consideration of everyone waiting for a statement from the club , regarding the Phipps meeting

- All anyone can say linking the reported discussion and German Military tactics in WW11.

Its all quite on the Western Front.:)

Don't think the retain list means anything, it looks like McClaren is going to be leaving Derby soon and their retain list was out a week or so ago.

If we sign a player and Clough is still manager, it's pretty obvious he is staying. But until that happens or we get a statement from the club, he could still go.

McLaren is leaving, not being sacked. The situation is completely different when it's the manager wanting the change

barny, one doesn't negate the other. I think you're getting yourself into an unnecessary lather about something that, as bartman and ScoobBlade have said, doesn't really need a great deal of time dedicated to this.

In my emotional state at Swindon following the 5-5 draw I leaned towards removing Clough. My main issue was our tactics in the two semi final games - I felt we should have played Adams from the start, for example. But upon sober reflection, I think and hope that Clough will have learned a lot from his first full season in League One and will buy some taller, tougher players and go out to dominate and win games. I'd keep him on, but if we're more than five or six points adrift of the autos at Christmas we may need to reassess.

Obviously there's still speculation regarding clough otherwise threads like this wouldn't be on this forum, so obviously not all fans still know what is going on at the club. A statement from the club would take around the same time it takes me to post this reply, so hardly any effort from the club for a huge benefit of every fan knowing what the deal is. That's just my opinion.

I completely disagree. A statement like that, while the intentions would be to add reassurance re: Clough, would actually weaken him in my opinion. If we're not getting rid of him, the club shouldn't say anything. If they do, it's almost an admission that there's a lot of people wanting him sacked - which in terms of communications internal or external does Clough absolutely no favours whatsoever. It would be counterproductive.

So Clough isn't aware that a lot of people want him out? He must live in a dark room with no electricity and no interface with the outside world then or something.

Fans of every club are fickle so I don't think it will bother NC too much if the minority of fans want him to go as long as he has he backing of the Board which at the moment I think he has

You've completely missed my point. There is no way Clough won't be aware of it. It doesn't help his cause though to have that highlighted by a statement of admission, and it gives greater weight to those that want him out We don't need any public "statement of backing", and I'm sure Clough won't be asking for one.

Ok, but i just think the importance of fans right to know what's happening behind the scenes is far greater than the importance of maintaining Clough's personal feelings and the reason for that is that us fans have seen many managers before him and i'm sure we'll see many after him, one thing that maintains the same is the supporters.

Those that keep saying the club shouldn't issue a statement need to have a listen to one of the statements Phipps put out regarding where we wanted to finish and if we failed to achieve this then we will all have a sit down and weigh things up. If this wasn't said then some of our fans perhaps wouldn't be asking questions regarding Cloughys' future because we have ultimately failed in what we set out to achieve so the sit down is well and truly required.
