Anyone believe that a player would know what the hierarchy are planning to do before the manager did?

The player could have just heard some rumours around the club, we all hear rumours at work, why would a football club be any different?

I think if his future wasn't secure that feeling would be known in the changing room. That kind of atmosphere spills out.

I just can't see HRH gossiping at the printer with Baxter.

Exactly - there could be the scenario where the board are clearly not happy but he could be staying anyway. The player may just be relaying that it's not a "cut and dried" decision that he's going to stay.

No, but the rumours I hear at work obviously don't come from the managing director, it's hardly a rumour if it's coming from the top man in the company.

In which case they have no more substance than rumours anywhere else. It's gossip.

Jim Phipps, Selahattin and McCabe junior effectively run Sheffield United. It could be that between them they allowed Clough to continue, sort the retained list promo video etc, but the Prince has the power to overrule them and if Phipp's meeting with the prince went that way then it went that way. He did say he doesn't like losing

Stranger things have happened, but i'd be really surprised if a board who were undecided on whether a manager was staying would allow him to announce the departure of the club captain who's contract doesn't officially expire until June 30th.

"We know who our targets are. We have people in mind, the same as we did last year" - because last year turned out so well, didn't it? Also, his obsession with certain players (like O'Grady) is becoming Warnock-esque.

Funny how one man's persistence can be interpreted as an obsession.

you've all missed the point
it's because Real Madrid are in for him.. come on guys .. get up with the program

I might be slightly missing the wood for the trees here but why in the world did The Star use the phrase "transfer blitzkrieg"?

Well at least a change from James Shields usual reporting.

It's time he stopped referring to the Blades 'transfer war chest'. He's been using this since 2006.
