Pretty sure when we first started it was maggots but as it became more popular (and the club started printing it on shirts etc) magnet made more sense so most people started using it. See, the club even ruined our song. Clough out and sack the board. In the car park with shoes off boys and girls.

What I can't work out is, if it's Magnet then why would Sheffield people sing about a beer that as far as I am aware is brewed in Tadcaster and has no Sheffield connections. So Maggots get my vote.

Are maggots made in Sheffield?

Yep, more maggots than pints of Magnet

Have you got that phrase copyrighted or can I use it? Quality

It's classic Partridge.

I've definitely seen plenty of people drinking a gallon of maggots when out in Sheffield.

When I was about 5 I used to think it was 'a good piece of stuff' instead of pinch of snuff. What a stupid child.

Never been Maggots doesnt make sense its all about vices beer fags and snuff
Why would a gallon of Maggots fill up your senses a gallon of Magnet might do though
Clearly fishermen. If It was ale it'dbe wards or stones :)

There needs to be an 'other' option as I would vote for magners and thrill...........(and be shot for it no doubt)

The song is titled 'you FILL up my senses' so why would that be changed at the end to thrill?

Ok this is one thing where you're definitely wrong. The song is known as the GCB or Greasy Chip Butty. It's based on a John Denver song known as Annies Song...

Keep up ;)

Anglers in Sheffield, Sheffield being the angling capital of the universe, buy (or bought) their bait - maggots - by the gallon, and it filled up their senses as they were off for a days fishing.

So there :P

Cos Stones's didn't scan right! Diamond sounded daft. Ward's is too much like Marmite, and rather than continuing the heated arguments about whether it should be Tetley's or Whitbread the blokes who came up with it decided on a beer none of them could stomach! Hence Magnet.

Agree and totally correct! + We always sing you 'Fill up my sensors' and 'come Thrill me again'

Perhaps we could work on a special version for Jose When we eventually find out what was filling up his senses.

'Come fill me again' makes no sense! We ask United to 'Thrill us again'

interestingly , when did you first here this being sung at the lane? the words have changed dramatically since it was sung in the early 80's.

I've stuck up for our fans this season but after arguing over a fucking song then them what said our fans were twats are definately correct:D

Oh, and it's Phil and Maggies:)

Its "You fill up my senses"
"Like a gallon on magnets"
"Come fill me again"

However while watching a video on SheffieldUtube it said "Come thrill me again

You fillip my senses........

no?

and seeing as the song was originally (well first time I remember it) "like a night out in Rotherham" - it might well be John Smiths.........
