Jason Holt not staying with us

Fair points but as others have said, we need bigger chaps in the midfield.

Keep Holt and we have three vertically challenged players in midfield.

Which two of these three would you keep - Holt, Scougall, Reed?

You certainly wouldn't have all three would you?

To be honest I wouldn't mind having all three around the place. Scougs has suffered with injury all season and will inevitably get injuries as he gets the stuffing kicked out of him against much of this league. Reed is still too young to be playing every game and is also very inconsistent. Holt has come in and once settled, done a job.... including getting the much needed goals from midfield we have sorely missed.

I'd be more than happy having those three on the books, so long as they are not all playing at the same time. Two bigger lads behind them in either Bash and Coutts or another new signing would sort that midfield out for me. (I'm assuming here that Wallace will unfortunately never be able to get fit enough to show us he is our best player currently under contract)

In the light of the below article and us potentially signing yet another crocked play in Shaun Barker, I would rather spend wages on a lad who has proven he can score in the division, pretty regularly when given a run in the team.

However, Clough plans to recruit more height and power to try for promotion next season after what will be five years in League One.

I like this sentance, it's exactly what's missing from our side currently & if this can be rectified with the right players this summer next season 'should' be our season.

Can anyone help as to the source of this? I like it too (contrary to popular belief - I'm looking at you Kenilworth :)) but I can't find it anywhere.

Expand the shoutbox to 11.54, there's an article that offers an opinion, but whether there's something to this I'm not sure. Hope it has a grain of truth about it, but no doubt all will bear fruit soon.

I don't know how to expand the Shoutbox mate! As you know, I try to avoid it these days!

The suggestion is that there is an article saying we are going for more power and height - something I welcome for reasons I have given and I have joined the discussion on that premise. However, I can find no source to justify the discussion!

Under the shoutbox click on Full screen shoutbox, that should do the trick. To return it to it's normal size click on Forum at the top.

Genuinely can't fathom why people believe a word that comes out of Nigel Clough's mouth. We need 3 or 4 quality players and that's all? He said that last season!

Pinchy, it says it in the article here
http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.c...aves-sheffield-united-as-free-agent-1-3772814
However it is not a direct quote from Nigel Clough, so could be just an assumption?

"...United intend to change their playing style following the midweek play-off semi-final exit against Swindon. They had first option to sign 22-year-old Holt as part of the loan agreement. However, Clough plans to recruit more height and power to try for promotion next season after what will be five years in League One..."

How did he get so many games? Important games too.
I am so pleased about this news.

'kin 'ell Pinch - does it need Grappler and I to wipe your arse as well?
If you're commenting on a thread at least get past Ray Parlour's tits and have a read of the linky on the OP

Strewth - There's me thinking you used considered argument as opposed to shooting from the hip whenever it suits

Good decision. He isn't going to play and as has already been pointed out between him, Scoogs and Reed he's likely to finished 3rd.
Getting people fit is the important aspect of this league as Basham and Wallace, alongside one from Scoogs, Reed, Cuvelier, DiMaio and K Wallace I think would be pretty much done.
Centre halves and forwards would be the requirement.

How did he get so many games? .
Because he did this thing where you put a bag of air into a net, something that almost all our midfield struggled to do.

He might not be a world beater but he can score goals and he's also only 22 years old. Never mind anyway, why would anyone want to sign after the slagging he's had after only 11 starts with 5 goals chucked in, i'd think fuck them, i'll go to someone who wants me.

Personally I think we ought to be looking at a lot better than either of them.

I've no hero's from the 4th division, none from the previous time in the 3rd [always think of Deane and booker as 2nd/1st division players] and only Basham has took my eye this time.

Ched has dropped off the radar.

Guess that's why we're stuck were we are.

Reed was outstanding in the first half of the season, including against Premier League teams, and should be part of our midfield for many years to come if he is gains in strength and confidence and is given a sustained run in the starting XI. The main problem with our midfield this season was that it chopped and changed so much that none of them knew who they were playing with from match to match.

He scored some vital goals for us but we do need some physical presence in mid field as well as at CB
as we have Reed and Scougall who are small players it seems as if he has been sacrificed
Hope another midfielder steps up to the plate in the goalscoring department

He'll get a "sustained run" if he plays well enough. That's how it should be, irrespective of age. Are all players entitled to a "sustained run" or just Bladey favourites? If one believes (I don't, particularly) in the adage "you're only as good as your last game" then he's rubbish!

He's a promising kid, nothing more. I have seen considerable potential but "outstanding in the first half of the season"? Not in my presence, he wasn't.

No problem with Barker, if it is a "Pay as you play" deal. I dont think we could get a better leader and defender if he is fit and able.

Wow- another Scottish player riding us on is conquest to reach the Championship. (Making reference to Barry Robson)

I see no problem in having a good look at him pre-season. I trust, however, that he has not been earmarked as one of the two new centre-backs we desperately need. That would be reckless by any standards. A fit and functioning Barker would be outstanding at this level, but it's a long-shot isn't it?

I'm pleased Clough is being honest with what he wants and although it's glaringly obvious at least he's making the right noises.

Need a Tri Dellas type. Big strong player who has a shot that can break the net!

According to The Star Clough is not signing Holt as he wants to give more opportunities to the youngsters such as Reed and DCL

For those who've seen Calvert-Lewin, just what is his preferred position? Only asking because how would Holt not coming back stop him from more first team opportunites? Reed, yes i can understand but I was always under the assumption DCL was a centre forward?
