However, Clough plans to recruit more height and power to try for promotion next season after what will be five years in League One.

I like this sentance, it's exactly what's missing from our side currently & if this can be rectified with the right players this summer next season 'should' be our season.

Good luck to him we have too many small midfielders as it is without signing more, his goal scoring was welcome but otherwise did nothing to stand out in a very ordinary midfield.

Harsh on Scougall as his season has been hampered with injuries and he just hasn't been able to kick on because of that, sure he has bits in his game he has to improve on but which player doesn't? I personally think we'd be mad to get rid of him especially so soon

Oooh. Pinchy will be miffed ;)

Popped up with goals though.

I did not mind him but Scoogs can do the same job anyway.

Why didn't he put that plan into operation this season or wasn't obvious enough to him ?.

No idea only he can answer that but for me that was his biggest mistake (of many). That's behind us now there's nothing we can do about the season we've just played out, we can only hope he's seen his error this season and will go all out to fix it this summer.

I place more importance on his goals than many people seem to - we needed the points he won with them to make the playoffs - but I'm not sorry about this. Bigger, stronger midfielders please.

I'm really pleased about this.

Contributed little and not a patch on Scougall even though Scougall had a poor season overall

Am I the only one slightly surprised by this? I agree he's not as good as a fully fit Scougs but saying he contributed little is a bit harsh?

I actually thought his forward movement and runs were paying dividends with the goals he was scoring. He started quite negatively passing the ball back a lot. However, as he got a few games under his belt, a bit of confidence, and started to settle in, I actually thought he was one of the only players trying to break into the box?

I'd have him as rotational option, especially if Scougs is unfit. Lets face it, Reed is still too young to be playing week in week out and who knows what's going on with Baxter, Doyle's out, I'm sure Flo will be as well. Can't help but feel at the right wages, he wouldn't be a bad backup player to have. Especially with the goals he can obviously contribute, seems to be in the right place at the right time quite a lot.

If we didn't have Scougall and Reed under contract this would be a good idea potentially. But we need something different (and better) than what we already have in midfield.

In an ideal world, Scougall and Reed will be the back up players next season.

In a limitless cast maybe but we have finite resources and have to deploy accordingly. In one sense he'd be great to have around but we can't employ everyone.

It looks like we're going for big, strong lads - which might appease some, till we start playing and the Oompa-Loompas run rings round us.

Fair points but as others have said, we need bigger chaps in the midfield.

Keep Holt and we have three vertically challenged players in midfield.

Which two of these three would you keep - Holt, Scougall, Reed?

You certainly wouldn't have all three would you?

Is that the club's new candy man?

:o

Not at all Ken. My model team, apart from the incomparable Brazil '70, is the Arsenal Invincibles. Exquisite proper football, delivered with purpose by players of power, pace, poise and panache!

My alliteration is piss poor, I know.

This at the heart of the midfield then Pinch?

not a bad little player and no one can take away the fact he was our most on form goalscorer the backend of the season i wouldve liked to keep him as at Least a squad player . but the clough has spoken so we move on.

This line in the article: "Holt was not keen to stay in case he became a bit-part player" suggests it wasn't just down to Clough. Obviously there's the possibility of the story being glossed up by a free agent who is looking for a new club, but at face value it says he wants a bigger role than as a back up squad player.

Good forward runner... good eye for goal...

...does absolutely nowt on the ball.

Another nearly but not quite midfielder.
