Don't want to be negative tonight but the biggest single question I have is " Why is Done not the first name on the teamsheet?"

Sorry? "He's not fit" How come he's on the bench and plays for 20 minutes or so when we have a replay and maybe a trip to Wembley in the offing?

It does not make sense. When he joined us he was in the top 2 leading goalscorers in League 1 and he performed minor miracles for us until Davies joined us and since then he has only started once to my knowledge.

He looked like the only forward on the pitch during his cameo for either side.

Busy, tricky, quick, strong, determined, direct, plays with his head up.

No way was that a foul on their defender for the goal that wasn't.

He has been injured so not sure NC is culpable there. If Done had played and not been fit for the play offs that would have been more of a worry.

He's been injured and in recent weeks he's been wrapped in cotton wool and nursed through. Absolutely no reason not to believe that.

But Clough bringing him on was a great move. Yet again he ran the opposition ragged and played in the only way he knows.

Hope Done gets a decent summer behind him and gets himself fully fit for August

To say he's been injured he seems to have been on the bench for a while now? Assuming he would have been fit enough to come on in the first game he was a sub for, just how slowly does he recover?

Surely it doesn't take that long between being fit enough for the bench and ready to start.

Pointless signing if he not playing more often.

If Done is injured then the 11 starting players look like they are suffering from terminal cancer - even injured he puts the rest to shame. Davies is not a striker, holds it up well enough but has no eye for goal.

Done cannot play for 90 minutes . He is having injections to even turn out . Will be back on the bench Monday . All a bit rag a muffin . Davies has never been a out and out striker as you rightly say.

Sorry to say this , but we now know the play offs will follow the same script as this season. I thought it would be completely different , but again its the seasons short comings and not using tactical awareness from Clough and his staff. Do you get what you deserve . Think you do in our case.

Done played 30 games for Rochdale this season before he joined us.

He has been substitute for us on 6 occasions.

I have but what i am looking at?
He's injured and cannot play regularly or for long spells. This is not a permanent factor. So labelling his signing pointless unless he plays more is not valid.

Are you saying the guy is not injured , but prefers Davies. If so madness.

I am saying that it is madness to put your top goalscorer on the bench if he is not fit and any other player come to that, but particularly your top goalscorer. He has been sub 6 times.

If he wasn't fit then I do not understand how we would risk further injury by playing him for 20 minutes tonight. It's in the OP.

Have you ever known a manager to put an unfit player on the bench?

The argument could be that he is not match fit but you and I know that Done is head and shoulders above any other forward player we have and he does not get match fit six times on the bench.

I would add that we have exercised a totally opposite approach with Coutts who is not match fit yet.

.

Because he can do more in 20 minutes than a few in 90. His shins flare up. How much depends on how long he plays for. It makes perfect sense to me, even though it's gutting.

Have we had an official explanation which I have missed?

I don't know what makes it official, but Clough has said as much. He's clearly not fallen out with him (see Collins / Butler) and so I'm inclined to believe him. If it wasn't the case then it would be sackable in itself.

So his shins flare up and how much depends on how long he plays? How odd.

So is he out for Monday now he's played 20 minutes? How odd.

A body needs time to recover when it excercises. More strain = more rcovery.

Unless tou are entirley determined to see what you want to see, it's really the inverse of odd.

I have no idea about Monday.

I've never come across this type of condition in 59 years watching the game. As far as I am concerned if a player is on the bench he is fit and if not he should be rested or treated until he is fit. Of course that does not apply for a game or two on return from injury but this situation is not that at all. Maybe he should never have been on the bench then. How odd.

He made a great impact from the bench and that's what he should do on Monday imo. Ofcourse he could start and make that sort of Impact also, but we don't want to run out of ideas early. We've got 90mins to knick a goal... And not concede somehow.

Woody , the blokes carrying a injury . We are playing him at risk . It is better having him a bit part player , than him breaking down and making the injury worst . Ok he runs around like he has a rocket up is arse , but the guy is injured , unless you know something we don't know .

Loads of players are on benches every week who are carrying knocks . 50% Done is better than 0% Done.

He made a difference when he came on, pity we decided to defend too deep.

Having to bring on a half-fit Done and risk him missing the second leg illustrates the utter failure of NCs squad-building. He's brought in quantity rather than quality and has a huge (by Div. 3 standards) squad and still 'doesn't know my best eleven'. We, unlike any other team, seem to get constant injuries which require a different eleven starting every single game. The chickens have come home to roost.

Tell you what I'd do with Done. Wrap him, Murphy and Basham in cotton wool until August, make sure they're signed up on long contracts and build the team around them next season. The rest can either be squad players or shipped out.
