Hope the weather is better than it was last night. It was brutal - bins blown all over, hanging baskets upturned, horizontal rain....

Sadly, many people view homelessness as the result of personal failings, and consider that if the economy is going well, there is no excuse for not getting on.

But this belief is belied by the facts, which show that homelessness is caused by a complex interplay between a person's individual circumstances and adverse 'structural' factors outside their direct control.

These problems can build up over years until the final crisis moment when a person becomes homeless.

Shame I can only give one like. This perfectly sums up how I feel about the subject.

Correct Nade, good book as is the film starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy. Well worth seeing if you get the chance.

After reading this thread I purchased this DVD, a decent watch, and plenty of humour in it as well ......

Soooo - if someone wants the DVD, let me have an address (by PM), home or work and I will post it on to you

Be nice to see your name on the Just Giving Page ;)

Thanks for all the donations everyone!

Might need some antifreeze inside but i've woke up on the streets in my day even though I had a bed for the night! ;)

Any extra donations will be appreciated......Our forum doing it's bit.

:)

Just donated. It didn't offer me the gift aid option though. Anyone else notice that? Does it do it without promoting if you have a just giving account?

Donated as I'm unable to take part as I was hoping to.
I'm sure we all want a fart/burp/snore update after the event. Mick Rooker may not be as polite in these situations;)

Lets keep it going if anyone else is able to donate?

Cheers for the donations chaps.

We may get a little damp on Saturday morning...

I think the plan is to meet in the Beer Engine on the end of London Road (formerly Delaneys) after work. Whoever's there first will check in on Twitter.

I was thinking this morning about just how lucky I am.

I woke up in a comfy, warm bed in a reasonably waterproof house. I went to the wardrobe to choose whatever clothes I wanted. I used the bathroom. I raided my cupboards for some dinner and despite having not been shopping for a fortnight, could rely on there being food in for me to eat. I put on my trainers, which have now been relegated to walking shoes after spending over £100 on some new running trainers. I locked the door to make sure all my possessions (and snoozing, lazy husband) were safe. I then had the luxury of deciding to walk into work, despite having a fully paid up bus pass in my bag. I got into work and utilised the free coffee. And one of my bosses stuck her head round the door to check I was alright. I'm now going to sit at a desk for the next 7.5 hours and on the way home, I need to remember to call by a cash machine.

Simple, taken for granted things.

I am not on Twitter, but will be there around 5ish. Easy to spot, I'll be the one drinking lager in a beer pub. Great post by the way, brings home the relevance of the event. Life can be much more closely balanced than most people even want to think about.

Bed for the evening...

Many of us are two paycheques from homelessness is the cliche. Increasingly for a lot of people living month to month that is one paycheque.

Illness, bereavement, separation, or many other factors.
