Today's one game wonder

Yes, he is on the far right of the front row. The photo must have been taken while the club was waiting for the results of his medical test!

I think Whittle played all the games in the pre season tour in 1976.

I think Whittle played all the games in the pre season tour in 1976.
Didnt know that. Will check Complete records when I get home. Always thought that he came to us for a very short time. The other pre-season 1976-77 photo had Dearden, Edwards, Goulding, Speight and Faulkner but were not in the one I have just posted. The one I have just posted was probably the second one taken because it included Chico Hamilton who signed for us that summer

He did - 3 games in Belgium and Holland. He signed for Orient after we released him.

Quick quiz. Who was the player who had a similar experience in 1989 - played all our pre season tour games and then not signed.

Today's offering. It may bring back nightmares....

Just checked Lee Baxters Wiki and I was sure I had the wrong person as Baxter has more goals in his goalkeeping career than possibly the whole of our squad

and then on closer inspection it says he played for United 30 times and scored 5 goals.......

Strangest game ever for me that one. Baxter was awful, Monty scored, Brown gave a glimpse of where his career would end up with an awful sending off and at the end I did my ankle ligamints falling over the wooden seats climbing over them to get out.

Had an impromptu cricket game on the outfield of Burnley CC before hand that was the highlight of the day.

Remember us all saying before hand that he (Warnock) should have played Fettis who had more experience of English football, but that Baxter had played champions league so must be something special. He certainly proved to be.

Paul Nugent - appeared in the 75-6 squad photo but never played for the first team...
Saw the photo on "Photographer Leicester" and thought: who? Don't remember the name, and can't see him in the "who's who?"(which does mention trialists we never signed like Louie Donowa and Dominic Iorfa).

Strange thing is, he played up front at Elm Park.

Hottest day of the year on an open away end. Lots of sunburnt blades that day. He nearly scored if I remember rightly.

He might have scored the third if Dane hadn't got to the ball first.

He ran around a lot and touched the ball once, I think - trapped a throw in on his thigh and kicked it over his head, to great acclaim.

The game against them at Elm Park in August - the first game of the following season - was even hotter. We lost that one 1-0 having stuffed them in April.

It was indeed Muggleton who came on late in the 3-0 win at Reading on 27/4/96. Someone outfield got injured and he was the last sub left of the 3 allowed then, so he went up front.

He was on loan from Leicester and it was his second loan spell at the Lane; he was also with us in 93-4 but never played.
