Howard 8/10. Good stops when he had to. Unlucky with penalty.
Flynn (get this, readers) 8.5/10. Great tracking. Worked well with JCR
McEverly 8/10. The new Maguire. Save for the daft moment.
Basham 8.5/10. Some quality work. Kept their threat supressed
Harris 8.5/10 Townsend had to work hard
Reed 8/10. Developing into a great player
Doyle 7.5/10. One of his better games, save for his 50p boots
Murphy 9/10. Quality battle with Walker
Scougall 7.5/10. Had to graft to get into the game
JCR 8/10. First half was his. Second half a bit muted
McNuts 7.5/10 only because he didn't get much to feed from.

Baxter 6/10. Still slow and overweight-looking
Wallace couple of touches

Clough 10/10. Got it right, with what he has available

Crowd 10/10.

Everything to play for at BDTBL. Proud of the team

Basham 8
Harris 9
JCR 7
Scoogs 9
Doyle 8
Reed 9
Murphy 7
McNulty 7.5

Clough 10

Murphy played really well second half against walker. I thought that he troubled him on a few occasions. I hope he gets at him at the lane time and again. With the crowd behind him and a bit more confidence from tonight, he can have him on toast. No really.

Reed is an exceptional talent. Some of the things he does on the ball are brilliant.

in short we did almost everything right and Spurs did almost everything wrong.

Best Scougall has played for six months looked like the player who we saw when we first signed him, Basham, Doyle Harris and Flynn played really well, as did JCR in the first half, Murphy came into the game a bit in the second half.

Only problem is the one we had all seaon no shots on target, which shows up the limitations of the striking options.

but all in very good as I expected a hammering.

Howard 8/10. Solid performance. Thought he had saved the pen.
Flynn 8/10. Comfortable at right-back
McEveley 7/10. Looked shaky from start & tired into the 2nd half. Do not rate him at all.
Basham 8.5/10. Our best centre-back by a long way.
Harris 8.5/10. Great composure and plays from the back.
Reed 7.5/10. Had a good game but misplaced some annoying passes.
Doyle 7.5/10. Pressed really well.
Murphy 8/10. Was in Walkers pocket for a lot of the game didn't get much space, had some glimmers though.
Scougall 8/10. His shot was our closest attempt.
JCR 8/10. Looked a threat 1st half, didn't feed him 2nd half.
McNuts 8.5/10. His hold-up play was excellent and ran at them when he had the chance.

--
Baxter 7/10. Didn't do too badly when he came on, setup scoogs and held the ball up well.
K.Wallace 6/10. Had no impact whatsoever.

Doyle higher than basham?
Proud of them all, but still don't like Doyle
Thought Doyle was excellent tonight, allowed scoogs and reed to run around like loons chasing down Spurs and not giving them any space. The three of them kept their shape brilliantly.

Apart from Doyles left peg he'd be getting a 9 from me

I thought we did exactly what we did with Southampton, namely when we lost possession, we rushed back and went back into the 4-2-3-1 shape. It became more 4-4-1-1 at times in the second half but player like Erikson, who I thought would rip us a new arsehole tonight, couldn't get any space or involvement. Dier really was their only true danger, only because McE was briefed to pick up Kane. No idea who Basham was picking up at set plays. Townsend had to work bloody hard to get away from Bob and Doyle. I knew Pocohantas would change things on the hour and bring Dembele on but really, Spuds had a ten minute spell where they couldn't penetrate the midfield and were shit scared of us breaking out and feeding McNuts.

he allowed the other two to play well? And he kept his shape, not sure what that means,But some of his touches are horrific and I'm not going to get into his shots on goal, I don't think he makes half the tackles and interceptions people give him credit for either- but I really don't want to go to town on him 2night, he frustrates me but he's the captain of my team that I'm extremely proud of right now so il take my negativity elsewhere ;)

Yeah he broke up play and protected the centre halves allowing scoogs and reed to get forward
The three kept their shape, didn't wander off, if one went, the others filled in. Proper midfield play. Worked really well together

I'd give Reed an 8, otherwise spot on.

Fantastic effort, but the manager can't get 10/10 when we lost.

I disagree. The tactics and brief tonight was to pressure Spuds and stay organised. Fuck the possession stats, if we score, ace, if we don't, boo-hoo. Stay in the tournament, take them back to the lane on the back foot.

Apart from a stupid, impetuous moment form a player who had a decent game, I cannot fault the team, or Cluff.

Pompey spot on Mr Clough with his ( usual ) tactics . Any ideas for League 1 games to ensure 10 / 10:D

Football is about opinions mate, and while I completely disagree-I fully respect yours

It could have gone either way, one goal in the next game next week and we are back in it. You never know, if we won tonight they may have played a full strength team next week. Next week they may just play the same group.

These are the 2 best posts you'll see all night for me,here's why.S11 says that some of Reeds' passing was annoying at times and he isn't wrong. When anybody gets chance to watch that first half again just watch some of Reeds' passing when we're in good positions,it was a bit to be desired.Don't get me wrong,i love the kid,but he wasn't the best in terms of passing tonight and didn't deserve anything more than what S11 rated him.

On to the manager. We missed a trick in not playing Baxter tonight, they were there for the taking at the back with that extra bit of quality. We also deprived JCR of the service he required in the second half, every goal kick went to Murphys' side up until the last 10 minutes, where we played a goal kick up to JCR and he took the piss out of Davies,we then got the ball in and Baxter so nearly got on the end of it.If we had deployed a tactic to just get the ball to JCR more,we would have certainly had more joy in that second half as Davies for Spurs absolutely shat his pants. So no,Clough doesn't deserve a 10,plenty of room for improvement.

Overall it was a very good performance first half, but not so the second half,we didn't continue to do damage in the right areas, but all is to play for in the second leg.

I think the same. Losing 1-0 away is possibly the best result for us on a psychological note. Of course we need to score two to win, but they will think they're halfway there.

Listening to Townsend and their other player post match they paid huge compliments to us and sounded surprise how good we were. Townsend though sounded a little arrogant in his response, but also nervy, he basically said Spurs have the lead and we need to score to get something out of it.

Well wether it's 0-0, 1-0 or 4-0 after the first leg, we still have to score. The interesting thing about the way Townsend spoke was that whilst he seemed to be confident, he's putting on a brave face. He's intimating that they can sit back and defend their lead and chances will come to them and that's all they need to do. Let's hope for an early blades goal!

Well they are halfway there as they won the first leg. I would expect a bit of arrogance from them as they are leading and are the better side, but if we can generate the same kind of tempo we did against saints we have a chance. I also agree with Hoddles post match comments a little though. They may have more space at the lane to open us up on counters.
