Our support is awesome (sorry to come over all USA) but we do have a documented record of driving out managers and I was just pointing out that this time in my opinion it is not the route to follow.
But when we get a good one we keep, them for a long time are are loyal as they come, Harry, Neil etc

Agreed, but there are very few who really want a change in manager right now.

I'm yet to think of a manager who we've hounded out who we should have stuck with. Can you?

Both Harry and Neil had a fair crack at it, Warnock even got a 'come back' thread.

18 months hardly equates to 7 years.

Not arguing with that but we did let ourselves down letting Robson even start his job.

I had to block you , I have unblocked you for the purposes of reading this thread and now youre going back on ignore

Ah, you see, that irresistible moment where lovers disagree....but you still haven't answered my question about what I'm supposed to have said, that's very naughty...but I suppose it's a convenient way to not validate your previous accusations.

I suspect it's just another judge tall tale to make a point. Of course you're entitled to block whoever you want, I've used ignore once or twice myself, it's just a pity you feel unwilling to answer my question...but there you go.

Your memory lapse has been noted.

Who?

Nobody thinks Weir, Adams or Robson should have stayed.

MCabe fired Blackwell and Wilson when no one was expecting it.

Speed walked.

McCabe declined to renew Warnocks contract.

Bassett was not hounded out.

So that's nobody hounded out in at least the last 25 years. Some track record!

There weren't exactly car park protests to reinstate them though and there were calls for both to go...

So? They weren't driven out.

And if there were calls for Wilson to be dismissed, anyone doing that at that point in the season wanted their head examining.

I think the best way to describe it is that McCabe was nudged into it.

Such was the desperation for success under Wilson that yes, many fans were pressing the panic button and calling for his head. Many on here, myself included, thought things needed freshening up and whilst it was a gamble, perhaps a motivator was the best thing to push for the play offs. It didn't work.

McCabes decision on Blackwell was probably driven by a full on shove and his fear of flying car park shoes

That doesn't sound at all like Blades fans, Swizzler!

I'm too lazy to check but I don't think that "many" fans were calling for Wilson's head at the time. They weren't on here. It came out of the blue.

people were unhappy, but the main thing we were unhappy with was Jon Forte playing up front instead of Blackman. That wasn't Wilson'd fault.

Support for this comes from the press conference when McCabe was asked by the Radio Sheffield guy to come up with a reason for firing Wilson and he couldn't really think of one.

Considering Barnsley are 7 points behind what some people think is the worst performing United team proves he is shit and should have gone earlier.

Shouldn't have had the job in the first place.

If you're going to completely ignore the period between August 2011 and March 2013, I agree that Wilson did a bad job for us.

What does Barnsley's current form have to do with how good or bad Wilson was for us? Oh, that's right, nothing.

The posts made during the time this thread has been alive really do bring the whole point of overreactions (one way or another) in to sharp focus.

We celebrate good wins against QPR and Preston and the very next week, all is doom and gloom again.

Go figure !!!

The league table in my view is the best barometer of form.

Many think that the Blades being in 7th in the third tier is a disaster so being below us indicates that those teams are really shit and who do we all blame?

It don't take much figuring out though does it Dronnie even the most lets say optimistic supporter must now realise any chance of catching the top two has long gone and without bringing some quality in fast the play offs are far from a certainty. Little wonder there is a fair bit of doom and gloom.

If you were to use this trail of thought though mate, would you not say that Clough has to go then? After all, what position was we in when Wilson got sacked?

This is the point though... It doesn't work to sack a manager everytime there are a few bad results. Admittedly, using that judgement last time proved very, very wrong.

What clough needs is to build both a footballing legacy, not just in style, but coaching and fully integrating the kids and academy right through to first team. At the same time, get things working in the league as well as the cups and take us out of this division.

It's coming slowly, but we need promotion this season as well as cup success.

For me sacking clough just wouldn't be the right option for a proper football club

Yes i agree.I'm not saying sack him,i was merely using your footnote as an example that we were wrong to sack Wilson at that time, like i say,we're in a lower league position now than what we were with Wilson, that's why i suggested it.

Yep - just impatient and feeling very, very frustrated.

I have picked that one line out and would like to emphasise a risky but possible scenario.

Clough could actually cement cult status at United by breaking our duck in the playoffs.

Would be a nice irony for some on here.........

Hmmmn - I'm not going to turn down a promotion via the Play Offs, IF it actually happens, but "cult status" by winning one after 4 dismal appearances in the final and screwing up three other campaigns? - More like blessed relief rather than cult status.

Now, if we had stormed the league and gone up as champions and won one of the domestic cups then that, I agree, would constitute proper cult status. In fact I would go so far as to say that SwissBlade would be first in line to have his babies. BUT - scraping through via the play offs is not a welcome alternative that leads to the status of one being a prize cult. More like a prize chump for not getting a club this size up in the first place via the automatic promotion places.

Think you are being a tad over the top by calling him a chump, and I repeat what others have said over a period of time during the past 6/7 months or so.
Is it not unfair to just "expect" NC to wave a magic wand by signing x number of players and then turn them into a guaranteed top 2 team. The size of our club is immaterial in such a short time period. If he doesn't do it in a longer time period, then I doubt there would be many disagreeing with you.

We are all disappointed where we are in the league, but NC needs to be given the chance (possibly in the play offs) to do the business. As for scraping up in the playoffs. we would all take it and it would be very interesting to see if the players we have are "too good for this division" as some have suggested.

You mean like the the Great Cotterillo at Brizzle or the Magnificent Cooperbaba from Swindon?

Izzy wizzy let's get busy and sign quality attacking players or a set of lads coming back from serious injury and POOF your season goes up in smoke.

Magic!

Very good - and people complain about the lake of debating - wonder why.

Twas you that brought up the Magic Wand scenario though, Fullers - I just extended the debate to match the context.

Shazam!

P.S. Hardly surprising that the level of debate is a bit wet, judging by your earlier statement ;)
