Thats fair enough about the development. Out of curiosity, what do you think he does in flahses that no one else can?

I wouldn't suggest he can do outrageous tricks, but he has inate ability at 17 that he shows unthinkingly.

The odd driven pass across a crowded midfield which arrives perfectly to feet. The occasional turn into space which he just knows is available. The balance and touch he can show in gathering an awkward ball.

When I first saw Jags at 17 I knew we had a special athlete who needed to develop his footballing know how. With Reed it seems more likely his pace and stature will limit him - he has a god-given head start on the rest.

I like reed but serio
He's only a kid so quite rightly he is being 'looked after'.

I really think he is better than Jags was at the same age.

I also think he will go the same way as the Kyles as opposed to Jags, I.e. Sold before he gives us another contract deal.
That's nice ,I suppose our league form is so good we can afford to look after our only decent player by not playing him

I'd be gutted it Murphy left. He might be inconsistent, but he's the only player who I feel any excitement when he gets the ball and runs.

I'm with you on this one mate, the lad is 17 not 12,get him played.Did Rooney get rested when he came onto the scene? I didn't think he did!

Some people say we can't use our club as a youth club to develop youngsters while we stay in this lovely league, well this lad has got it already and should be starting almost every game if fit and in form obviously.

These thread should be pinned so we can look back at them.
In the summer there were similar comments about how our board would probably accept a couple of million for Scoogs and how typical it was of our lack of ambition.
I agree Bob, however we can't test the theory as we didn't actually receive a £2m bid for him. We did, however receive one for another player and guess what??

If, as seems the case, Diego is being lined up by the big boys, I'm surprised (maybe not) that we seem to be so blasé about getting him tied down to a new contract.

As with Reed, we're never going to get a better time to play these players than in Division 3.

He was only 17 in July and our youngest ever player.

Next season is the one to drop him into most games - if we still have him.

They've been lining him up for years now :), we're looking at sorting a contract at the moment.

True, it was just the tone of Clough's comment about his new contract, sounded like we'll get round to it at some point.

The new Jacob Mellis ;)

Did he force a move and hasn't been seen of since? Again we had their pants down, the lack of quality reinvestment is a separate issue.
We were right to accept the offer for Harry.

Jacob Mellis was and still is a prick,Diego hasn't and might not ever get that tag, then again....:)

Would probably be a different story if he set off this season like he finished the last one, which he hasn't.

I wish I had your faith in the Blades board Bob..........

what makes you so sure big boys are after him i like diego and have seen him play more than most on this site
and he is a million miles away from being a top player at the moment.he will be monitured yes! like a lot of young players
but unless he gets his finger out and works harder for the team he will fall by the wayside ,the time of lazy keith edwards
style of striker are over they have to close players down and work for the team.great players at the top in world football
can get away with a bit of lazyness but your talking messi quality and diego will never be that good(i would love him to prove me wrong but lets live in the real football world) .If diego has any sense and i think his dad is his best adviser will sign anther contract with us he will get his chance here if he shows the kind of work ethic clough is looking for.mcnuts is being told the same and is now putting in the work ethic for the team .Clough wants this from strikers as this is how the game is played today.its not rocket science just how it is today

Can you seriously say that Diego has had enough chances to show how hard he works on a football pitch for us in league one?

Totally disagree with this line bob, look where we are at the back now!
I like Basham and think McGahey will be a good replacement from next season but we needed an experience centre half which we've tried to bring in and failed. Given the money on offer its was a great deal for us, but we should have done better in finding a replacement with the funds we had.
If Butler, McCarthy or Collins had been anything like for us this season more would agree with me.

But, as per usual, they weren't, and we spent the Maguire money on fees and wages of several defenders, none of whom are as good as him, rather than 1 good player, or not selling him at all. We never learn.

People who defend selling our family silver never factor in that we use the money to buy paper plates.

unless diego improves his work ethick he will be classed as a big time charlie and they,rs not much room for them in football today .I hope the penny drops as he has great ability and would love to see him make it he.

Probably because it's a different issue. We got a lot more than Harry's worth, the fact that they made a mess of sourcing a replacement is a separate issue.

It shouldn't be though should it? Finding a replacement should be factored in to the original decision to sell.

Diego on bench at York today. He was an unused sub in last match
Diego got injured in the warm up of the previous match against Carlisle,so he's either still feeling the effects of the injury or the manager didn't want to use him as they were down to ten men after about 20 minutes, due to Zubar getting sent off. It's been well publicised on their website that Russ Wilcox likes him.
