Usual selection strategy then :D

Was reading an article about how his dad approached cup games. The night before the Cup final when his forest played Southampton, he had his team knock back 13 bottles of Champers between themselves as he wanted them to show no nerves what so ever. Needless to say they were hungover and went behind but luckily managed to scrape it in the end 3-2. Clough's don't confirm to normality when it comes to football however it delivers the goods! His dad was a cracking manager who prided himself on his players doing the basics correctly. It appears Nigel has a very similar attitude,

Agree although his dad would never have berated any officials like Nige does these days.

I understand why Nige is so frustrated though to an extent. I think as ego's and salaries of players have grown they don't give a toss about referees these days and walk all over them. Referees have no level of consistency these days and are scared to make decisions. I know it's easy to moan about them and point finger and stuff but the overall standard of officials is shocking these days, not just because we are in league one therefore get sub-standard refs but as a whole

We you have spent all week planning your battle, it must be pretty frustrating watching it come undone due to poor decision making by the referee. .

Makes me cringe when people compare him and his dad

I don't see why Judge mate.

I'm not stating he is as good as his dad or that he will ever achieve what his dad achieved however there are definitely several likenesses in his approach to managing. He likes to keep his players in their place and makes them earn their shirt which is very much like his dad and expects the basics to be done right as standard just like his dad.

Definitely a good bit there.

His father was one of the greatest if not the greatest manager ever
any comparison to him based purely on the fact he is his son is totally unfair

There are bound to be some similarity but you could say that about anyone

But drawing a comparison is merely about weighing up similarities at the end of the day. These can be comparisons on pretty much anything and my emphasis is on style of management, ethics and moral standards. I never drew comparisons on his achievements nor did I say that he was going to be as successful or any more successful than his father therefore I personally think it's fine :-)

It's not a pop at you personally just that every time we get a good result or two
someone compares him to his dad

Got to agree with judge. ..not fair to compare with his dad...different era and Brian clough was a " one off"

It might wakeup Higdon and we could see if anyone is in.

In fact Grumps, Clough paid respect in the interview to Higdon and his goals that got us through two earlier rounds. I respect that from our manager, much better than cheap shots in fact.

Higdon had a shot, must have missed it.

Yep -he also commented on the recognition that Higgy is not a fans favourite. I am not so certain we are playing to Higdon's strengths as I cannot see him being the type of player that can do what McNuts did last night - but there is surely a place for a proper centre forward if we deliver the right balls into him.
