Apart from Brayford on loan has anyone of them been a succes?

Basham perhaps, but he has only shown desire not a lot of skill.

The rest? can't think of any standouts. Wouldn't trust him with any money in January (if there is any)

Last season yes
this season no
give him some cash and I think he will take us up

Give anyone enough cash and they'll take us up.

Bryan Robson says hello.

To respond to the question, Judge is right, apart from Paynter last season's signings were all pretty successful, weren't they?

As to this year, I think CKR has been a good signing. I think Basham will prove to be once we stop messing him about and play him at CB all the time.

I have to say I had such low expectations of McNulty that I'm pleased with what he's done so far.

The rest are okay at best...I'd agree no one stands out. For different reasons, Wallace, Higdon and Butler have been very disappointing.

JCR , Basham and Maceveley are all playing well ,McNulty will eventually ,and Wallace looks class when not injured. I think Harris is our best player a long with Murphy. Alcock ,Magahey and Davies are all ok.
Confidence is a problem in front of goal ,we do have plenty of possession and make chances ,no matter what some say on here (usually the ones who don't go ). We are better set up to play away from home , we just need to be a more direct ,decisive and faster at the Lane.

You best have a word with Nigel about changing his ways. In regards to chances, there is nothing clearcut.. I didn't go last night, however on Friday can you tell us all about these chances we missed? Last 4 games at home 2 goals 2 points.

Due to personal reasons ( a 3 week old baby) I think this will be my last season ticket for a while due to the fact the banter time with the lads before and after is going to be considerably cut. If I am going to go just to watch matches, no thanks. This is awful

Congratulations ,you kept that quiet. It never stopped me ,I would miss it too much. All mine have had season tickets from 4 years old and I found it a good excuse to get out of the way when they were babies :)

At present my season ticket is in serious danger of not being used again ! Utter dross of the highest calibre and Mr Clough has the audacity to put it down to bad luck !
Are the players not very bright ? They cannot seem to think for themselves ! Some are genuinely talented yet it is wasted because their application, desire and vision is piss poor !

Can't remember a clear cut chance for us last night. Never looked like creating one either.

this wallace guy. i've never seen him. every time i'm back he's always injured. he's the new Steve Finneston

JCR can tear defences apart on his day but his crossing is pretty awful even when we are playing a striker for him to send it to. JCR is a journeyman and shows at times why that's the case.

Basham and McEveley seem like solid signings though who are getting better over time. McNulty is OK but he is still learning and also learning he shouldn't go to Edinburgh again anytime soon.

If we take our chances that we actually create then a game like last night would have finished 2-1 to us. Sticking with this formation is doing us no favours at the moment though.

"just need" , maybe it's a bit more than "just".

So the Manager is shit and his signings are all shit (bar one who was on loan last season). So what is the answer? Fire the manager, sack all his players and start again? People like you with your knees jerking at every result puzzle me greatly. While I don't quite sit on Woodwardfans scale of optimism I do see that the constant chopping and changing of managers that so many fans demand (partly down to forums like this) unless backed by many millions of pounds is a law of diminishing returns. Do you think Clough just got lucky last season and that Brayford was the reason we didn't get relegated? Like all of us in our work you have good runs and bad runs, if you got sacked every time you had a bad run none of us would be in our jobs more than 6 months.

If we don't get over this sack the manager every time we don't win for 4 games we really will just keep dropping further and further down the league with no decent manager wanting to touch us with a barge pole.

Sorry Bladesway I'm despondent right now. On return from a long holiday I see a manager and asst. manager under pressure, bollocking their players every hand and turn, and I don't see many players enjoying their football.

I've been at the last 3 home games and play in the final third is generally pessimistic and lacking confidence. We are not getting players in the box and the last three visiting goalkeepers have hardly made a save between them.

The manager has to change the mood quickly as the promotion race forges ahead. Key players like Baxter, Scougall and Murphy must get the smile back on their faces somehow. We need Higdon to start and enjoy himself too, frankly he has to succeed if we are to succeed. O'Grady will help but he can't do it on his own. McNulty will help but only as a secondary striker surely. Both Higdon and O'Grady need our formation and tactics to play to their strengths, nobody can plough lone furrows week in week out. Playing away tactics at home doesn't work

The thread is about Clough's signings. 5/10 would be my rating overall. Not good enough really.

In the summer I was optimistic that we had a manager to take us all the way. I hope that is so but he's had a poor summer and a terrible time at Bramall Lane since then. Talk of sacking him is silly, but he has a lot of work to do and he knows it.

This in microcosom is the answer. Sacking him is stupid talk but he, the team and the board need to do something radically different at home to change things. Of course its tough Woodwardfan, its the third division and theres we are here for the longest stint I can remember in my time as a blade.

Shit me WF if your on your knees from being the ray of light this quickly we really are all buggered.

Talking of stupid talk, what do "the board need to do radically different at home", change their cocktails? :):) Anyway lets not go there again!!

Let's hope Clough can get things back on track. One big step would be to encourage players during the game rather than all these bollockings. Younger players in particular need encouragement to express themselves on the pitch.

I'm struggling to see how he will get things back on track.
As for encouragement we know it's not his thing man management ain't his strong point.
He's got his set tactics and he won't change them.
His spineless approach at home is really starting to sicken me that's alright away but trying to nick goals at home won't get you promotion.

Some people are touchy aren't they? I have read the OP three times and can't find where he is saying sack the manager.

He is just pointing out the mangers signings leave a lot to be desired and wouldn't trust him to do any better in January, a view I have a lot of sympathy with.

The board should give Negative N an ultimatum, if he wants money for squad strengthening, "Promotion or bust this season" not getting promotion with best the best resources in the division is an unaccpetable failure.

No, you are right HG not trusting him with any money in January and the general thrust of the OP aren't vaguely connected with get rid of him are they?
