There were 3 Blades players around Tyson, should it really have been a red? McCarthy certainly wasn't the last man.
Whether it was a lucky deflection or not he shouldn't have been out of position,he also had one of our midfielders nearly run past him,i don't know who it was but if it was Doyle, and no disrespect Doyle but he aint the quickest, that's very worrying and lathargic indeed.the position was because of a lucky deflection that bounced through. Paddy has been very solid and we should try to get him at least for the season in january.
Is he banned for crewe match? If so thats fallen good because he wasnt hoing to play anyway!
A reaction usually tells you a lot and when McCarthy walked straight off when shown the red card that was good enough for me.I was 100 yards away so didn't get a view of it, but on second viewing today i think it was a red.

He wasnt registered for us for the FA Cup as Palace refused to allow him so I think he misses the Oldham match
Can't complain it was a red, would've been fuming if the roles were reversed and their player only got a yellow.
You'd have spontaneously combusted at Crewe a few weeks back then, we got a pen and their man didn't get a card at all.
Not that we scored the pen of course, plus their man eventually got himself sent off, but that isn't the point....
As an experienced centre half McCarthy was always going to make that challenge. In my opinion it was the right decision as he stopped a goal and then the resulting penalty was saved.
This sounds suspiciously like condoning the behaviour of one Luis Suarez at the 2010 World Cup. From the team's point of view he saved the tie by cheating and no doubt his team mates applauded him for helping them into the semis. From a sporting point of view this is about as bad as cheating gets in football and should be punished accordingly. The only way a player should commit a deliberate foul or handball in the penalty area is to prevent a certain goal, and even then it should depend on the score and circumstances.
If, say, it's 0-0 in an FA Cup semi final, with five minutes to go, a deliberate handball on the line to prevent a goal, or upending an opposition player before he taps the ball into an empty net is probably about worth it.
