Not sour grapes I promise you. Honestly, what value is there in a cup where a quarter final tie attracts a crowd of barely 2000? I would scrap it, keep the league cup but only for championship, league 1 and 2. II'm sure some premiership teams, particularly those in Europe, could do without it.
Maybe their could be a tournament just for premiership sides that don't get into Europe, the Not Good Enough for Europe cup perhaps.

For most of that match both teams looked like they really could not give a shit about this cup.

Because it's an opportunity for league 1 and 2 clubs to compete for a trophy they can actually win at Wembley. What's wrong with that?
Rovrum and Chessy have both won it. So have Posh.

You can get promoted and win the fucker. Decent teams like Southampton have won it on their road back to the top.

Opening post has a bit of a big club mentality about it. The opening rounds are dull, but the possibility of a rare Wembley appearance for lower league clubs is irreplaceable. The income from the other rounds could mean financing an extra player for a season for smaller clubs.

Not something you need to worry about with your crowds or owners.

I think I'd be slightly embarrassed to win the paint pot trophy, it would be like Mary Berry winning the bake off, not to mention the embarrassment of doing it in a half empty Wembley.

Cup runs (whatever competition) often coincide with a successful league season. Lets wait until May to compare what you and Bristol City end up doing in the league and this competition this season....

I'm not one for the JPT either. Just unnecessary additional games for little reward. If anyone can look at the crowd tonight and say it's worth bothering then they're talking out of their arse. The smaller clubs care about as much as we do.

Which is why I'm so glad we're out. I need a trip to Wembley for a Z rate cup even less than we need to be in 4 competitions.

Aye, but it's not cause and effect. The best teams, on average, win more than the poorer ones. Being in more competitions, in iteslf, doesn't breed success.

I thought you'd been banned. But I actually agree with you on this one.

Our problem is being in this league, not playing for this Trophy.

Not as embarrassing as not winning sod all and being mid table 3rd division crap year on year, now that would be embarrassing would it not. the only other more embarrassing thing would to be mid table 3rd division crap employing a rapist, now that would be embarrassing?

Gate money of £20,000 pays the majority of our first team squad, or many more general club staff. Makes a difference to us, regardless of how many fans are interested. Perhaps that's why we make a profit most seasons, and the only time we didn't was when we chased the dream we couldn't afford, which resulted in the only debt we have now.

The more games players play together, the more they connect and gel as a team. That is, unless a manager drops players ad unsettles the team.

To an extent, yes. But there's a reason ALL the best professionals rotate squads, and don't want to be in all the cups. And you can be sure they aren't rotating the squad for the sake of gelling.

Why Erad ?. A completion open to members of the two bottom divisions, one of which we are fully paid up members, a day out at Wembley and a chance to make a bit more money. Surely only our opponents would feel embarrassed about Wembley being half full, plus don't forget the 150,000 supporters we supposedly have thanks to Cheds pull.

I will never understand why people don't want us to win all the trophies we enter.

It's more embarrassing not to win something you enter than to win it, in my book.

If it were up to me I would scrap it - but if it exists, we want to win it.

Forza is right, the real embarrassment is being stuck in this league for four years. I guess winning the paint pot would just be another reminder to the whole country of just how low we are.

We didn't fill our end of Wembley for the Huddersfield playoff final, I'm not sure we'd sell even half our tickets for the paint pot final and I'd find that embarrassing watching the highlights. If we were a team, like many at this level, that haven't been to Wembley in donkey's years then it might be different, but we're regulars at Wembley these days.

Well said sir! After all, losing is a lot better isn't it:rolleyes:

Gate money of £20,000 pays the majority of our first team squad? Are you sure? o_O

My jaw dropped when I read that and it nearly locked at the suggestion that we make a profit most seasons.

The bigger picture is that a great many clubs will never win either of the other two cups, ever, so I think it's a worthwhile cup that plays an important role in many club's lives. A lot of Blades don't like it, which I'm guessing is because simply by being in it, we are reminded of how low we have sunk. It's all relative. I suppose it's like top Prem teams being disappointed at only being in the UEFA cup. However, surely the biggest embarassment is the number of seasons we've been in this division and we still haven't won it.

A big day out and a rare opportunity to go to That London for clubs like Port Vale or Torquay. Utterly meaningless for us. If we'd have got to the final, I wouldn't have even listened on the radio.

I have never seen us win the FA or League Cups

Come off it BOSS, we all know you were there in '25.

I've never been to a JPT game (in any of its guises) and I never will. Pointless competition and a gross misuse of Wembley Stadium for it's final (mind you I feel the same about the Play Offs as well).

We were stood next to each other - I remember it well! :D ;)

I've always liked the idea of binning it and also restricting the league cup to divisions 2-4 - gets rid of one cup that nobody cares about for everyone, apart from championship but as someone from there prob wins it that seems fine
