Clough shouldn't be in a rush to get a striker,no you're right. What he should do is play the main man that we all ready have on the books,Marc McNulty, this would get us the ruthlessness you talk about and this is a lot to do with Cloughy and nobody else, not the fans, yes, the manager.

He ain't the answer, Wiz, he doesn't run the channels ;)

More like they can't afford the medical bills, deary me why are we even looking at crocks like this is it just because he is ex Derby ? Clough is starting to piss me off with his blinkered look on future players, do we not have a scouting network that extends beyond ex Derby or Scottish players ? Believe it or not Nigel there is a whole world to explore.

Harrison McGahey, Chris Basham, James Wallace, Michael Higdon, JCR, Craig Alcock, Paddy McCarthy - no Scots, no ex Derby, all integral to the squad.

In fact only Bob Harris, Stefan Scougall, Marc McNulty, Ben Davies and Jay McEveley fall into the categories you name - again don't think many people would argue that they are integral to the squad.

Even his so called 'poor' signings (ie Basham) turn out to be good.

Lets just forget he has tried to bring in at least 4 other ex Derby players Freeman Sammon,Bennet and Brayford with only the latter being any good.

Sammon - did he ever say we were after him?

Id argue that Freeman, at the time, would have been seen as a steady signing, never let us down on loan.

Thing is, Clough has had more successful signings than bad ones - so even if he did want to bring in a Scot (should we really rule out an entire nation?) or an ex Derby player (lots of people have played for them you know) should it really matter?

The thing is Clough has got money to spend should we be looking at crocks and players who can't get in the Derby Squad ? We have spent very little of the money that came in from the cup run and the Maguire sale makes you wonder if Clough has got any money available but that is a different discussion.

I take the point but how many players who he has signed would you say could make the step up to the Championship,i don't think it's many personally and this would mean we'd have to rebuild all over again, back to square 1 and that's not going to be easy,it really will test his scouting nous and how much money we really do have:rolleyes:If some people think that most can make the step up then quite frankly they're blinkered.

Im not sure it will throw a spanner the works. I don't think it matters who the manager is, they cant afford to play him and its the Chariman who is sorting this one out.
Their chairman really has got them in shit creek and you'd have thought they would play their best players to get out of the mess they're in,but Davies can't even get a game for a rock bottom of the Championship club, that says it all really.

I heard similar comments from Wolves fans towards the end of last season and during the summer, we'll need 6 or 7 new players to even stay up next season.

Supporters generally talk bollocks don't you think Wizzster? ;)

That's about a correct as correct can be, but said supporters do love to speculate/fantasise. I'm sure that if we're in a good position come the closing stages of this season that NC and his team will be ahead of the game.

They had a lot stronger squad than us,infact head and shoulders above us so i'd suggest you start listening to better comments from people that know what they're talking about;)

I do agree in general that some supporters speak bollocks:D

On a side note, you're not one of the blinkered ones are you?:DI expect better from you:(

I told them they were talking bollocks, but they weren't listening (and they weren't that far in front of us, 2 players I'd say and Cloughie from day 1). As for us, I think there may well be one or two members of the squad that would surprise you (and themselves probably) stepping up a division.

I'd just to love the chance to see if they were good enough in the Championship....

I think they were more than 2 players ahead of us in terms of a good first team and good squad players, but that's for another day. What i would like to know is who do you think the 2 players are that would suprise me,and i'll tell you if they would suprise me to take that step to a higher level?

Wallace, Baxter, Murphy - comfortable in Championship

Howard, Scougall, McGahey and Harris - have a chance

Edit: Basham might have a chance if centre half form continues.

Besides those already mentioned;
Alcock has proved he can do it.
McNuts will score in the division above, I'm certain of that.
Reed will develop into a class player

I think the one's that would struggle include Flynn, Doyle (age is against him), Collo, JCR (OK in patches but consistency and predictability) Davies (age again), Higdon (age and mobility - but better in a two up top), McEveley

No chance - Porter, McGinn, Kennedy (heart's in it - quality isn't)

So there is a reasonable number to replace but there is a good core there

McNulty and Reed purposefully left off - need to see more of them to make an informed decision.

McNultys poacher skills may be more suited to the level above.

Good observations HCDM, although different, MM could become our equivalent of Kevin Phillips, but as you so rightly say, let's see how he performs and then make a considered evaluation. As for young Reed, more or less the same comments, but he's come in at this level and not been troubled, so finger's crossed.

Agreed. As with MM, I think if Reed continues getting games and developing (especially physically) his game too could be more suited to a higher level. Someone who can control the tempo of a game is invaluable against better opposition.

I like the comparison of MM and Phillips - I think once MM is let of the leash properly (I reckon NC is being very astute with how he bloods players) then we have a natural scorer.

In complete agreement mate, biggest plus I feel with Reed is his first touch, that can make so much difference to those crucial first seconds when decisions are made.

Re. NC, if only some of our supporters felt the same way.....let the manager manage, UTB

Alcock you must be joking he,d get found out proper in the Championship

L1 is his limit

He played a full champ season for Posh, don't forget. He is a decent RB - not as good as Brayford, mond, as he doesn't add the attacking intent and execution - but he is a decent defender.

Ken, just had a call from Terry K, devastated pal, asked where the razor blades were.....said he can't see a future ahead of him after your comments ;)

Seriously though, think you're more or less right about who'd be retained, although I'd like to see a few of the young players be given a chance. I know that now's not the time to experiment, but it does look like we have some decent prospects who'd love to challenge for a place in the squad.

Ha - as if Tel Kennedy has a hot line to you IIYB :)

He's seems a good lad - but that's not an asset that is likely to get him into the first team.
Perhaps he will need to be loaned out for a while to get some proper competitive games - otherwise I can see him going the same way as Elliott Whitehouse.
