I think Wilder is growing a bit tired of Chowdhury - there was a time in the first half where the camera panned to Wilder having a word with him (think it was just before Pecks first). That being said, I think that Chong was the worst player on the pitch by a considerable distance last night.

Cannon gets pelters for being weak and lacking any real pace, but Chong hits the floor as soon as anyone brushes him and is so easy to defend against (you just have to be close to him). The right side is a problem for us at the minute and we don’t have the personnel to fix it either.

Yes we were without Bamford or Phillips last night and despite the win, it was really worrying that we conceded twice against the worst side in the league and spent the majority of the game lumping balls up field for Cannon to try and win headers against 6’3 centre halves.

Back to slow, lethargic plodding football after that display against Wrexham is a concern.
Doc at RB and Femi at RW might be worth trying

Sums it up

His hard work is pointless as he never properly unsettles defenders or wins duels. He sort of half presses. It’s all very performative stuff.
He has an inane ability to be in the wrong place at the right time or the right place at the wrong time!

He’s never where you need him to be.

Get anywhere near our money back in January, then go get a winger on loan to replace Chong in the XI and have Bamford and BBD up top if we stick to this formation.

offload Tanganga too and get Kitch on a perm and a new loan or get someone like Souttar as a replacement.

Whisper it quietly but I think Burrows might be back.

Loved Peck’s second goal but I loved the third one even more so - how long have we been waiting for a midfielder to burst into the box like that to get on the end of a cross. More of that please!
Think that third is another to tally for the benefits of having wingers on their favoured side that are comfortable driving to the line and firing it across while the defence is preparing. Shove a right footer in that same move and more often than not they’d take an extra touch and either touch it back to the left back, or cut back onto their right, or their effort to cross on their left is blocked/wayward.

Wilder in his first spell was so religiously wedded to having players on their more natural side that he’d crowbar people out of position to fill in rather than stick say a right-footer out left – Keiran Dowell at LWB, and Stevens/Lafferty filling in at LCB/LCM instantly spring to mind. I’m not sure he ventured away from this till 2020/21 when injuries forced his hand. Yet since he moved away from wingbacks, he’s till recently preferred inverted wingers. Hopefully the rewards we’re seeing will continue.

I think that mark was justified. Clarke was not that good before HT and missed two very presentable second half chances.

He never looked very good, he just scored goals for us.

I think you are trying to out- Grinch Deadbat. A bloke scores 4 (FOUR) goals in a 4-0 win, but yet still can't get full marks!

4-1.

It was 0-1 at HT after Grosicki had deceived Henderson with that long chat.

Tangentially, I was watching online in Asia on holiday. A disgruntled Revo Jr stormed off to bed at HT, cursing the team.

I did not wake him to tell him how the second half was going. He found out the following morning!

Is this the first time this season we've come from behind to win?

Half pleased half frustrated last night. We were in total control from minute 15 to 75 but lacked the killer instinct to finish Preston off after half time. It wasn't even down to tactics are sitting back. We simply got sloppy giving the ball cheaply. The number of times in the second half we just played a poor pass or just helped the ball on instead of putting a foot on it and keeping possession. You could kind of see what was going to happen even though Preston were posing no real threat and we go and gift them a goal and let them back in it. Thankfully they were that poor that they didn't really cause us to many problems in the last 15 but it made for a nervy end. At HT I thought we would go on and win by 5 or 6. In the end the score line flattered Preston.

Having said all that got to be satisfied overall how we have come back after the international break. Some of the underlying problems are still there but we are moving in the right direction. The challenge will be can we up our levels to pick up some points against the better teams. I agree with what Wilder said a few weeks ago and we should judge on where we are at Christmas. I still feel we look a 12th to 16th placed team but we shall see over the next few weeks.

Been saying the same about cannon for ages. He looks on first glance like he's trying, but actually he's looking busy whilst hiding behind players.
One of my first jobs was working in the stockroom at NEXT. I enjoyed it because I could walk around looking like I was searching for something with a few bits of clothing in my hands and then largely hang around the back doing nothing.

Tom Cannon does this but on a football pitch.

Some great examples in this game.

First goal he's between two defenders, completely static. Chong's bobbins but at least he's making a run - which causes the confusion that leads to the goal.

Second goal - Peck, Chong & Donovan run past him chasing the ball up from the back. look at his body shape and position here, no wonder Peck doesn't trust him. By the time he's got the ball under control the PNE 27 has closed him down and the other 4 defenders have cut out the other options.

third goal - here he is again hiding behind two defenders jogging past the near post, if he gets the ball he has to beat both the defender and the keeper from a tight angle on his weaker foot, whereas Peck has gone to the back post and is busting a gut to get into the acres of space PNE have left there.

he's an absolutely terrible, brain dead footballer. He's got a powerful shot and very little else. The comparison between him and Peck is stark and Peck really shows what an intelligent footballer he is, making the right decision every time and being rewarded with his first hat trick. Also showing he's completely wasted playing deep and recycling possession.

I've gone in on Cannon here but I could have easily pointed out the same with Diaz. Where exactly is he supposed to be playing because he's behind the ball for every goal.

I think it was during the celebrations of Peck's 1st goal he was having a go at Choudhury. That right hand side just looks so weak, but if we played Seriki and Donovan there (when Seriki is fully fit) it becomes the strongest part of the team imo.

I'm taking the positives out of that, playing without 4 important first team players and got a solid away win. I think we took the foot of the gas at 3-1 up as they were posing very little threat. However they decided to actually try and score and we had already switched off. We haven't got a killer instinct, which is why we will proibably miss out on the play offs in the end. Got to enjoy wins when they come though. UTB.

I’ve managed it on three occasions

Once in September and twice when the clocks went back

Realise folks like to be quite forensic in individual performances and granted some have a great game , some have a stinker , alot to do with who their up against .

Ultimately its a team game , you win and lose as a team. Individuals make mistakes , without the opposition doing so we'd hardly ever score .

Hard to tell how effective some are to the team without themselves looking great but allowing others to flourish .

The team last night defended poorly for the goals conceded , but Ultimately did enough to create and take chances to win.

They all won , sometimes they all lose .
