Does "punt it long and pray" count as a tactic?
Sadly that's an improvement on Wilders recent seasons when the tactic was pass it endlessly sideways and backwards in front of the entire opposition until you lose it or are under so much pressure you have to hack it anywhere anyway.
I well remember in the supposed good season saying 'Go long Sooty' every time Souttar received one of the endless pointless sideways passes but he only went long diagonal when he had too re pressure and Wilders insane endless possession 'tactics'
No hope of winning a header with any of our strikers (One will never play under Wilder)
BUT it can be surprising with an energetic midfield (ie NOT Wilders Dads Army selections) how many times you can pick up possession from a defenders header - particularly if someone can be bothered to put them under pressure when clearing
and of course when McCallum is playing a clearance out of play may actually get a ball into the box from a long throw - with McGuiness at least in with a chance of getting his head on it.
There has always only been one sole attacking option under Wilder - the Mr McCawber 'something will turn up'
and it often did when we had good players,
despite Wilder's brain dead tactics
ps If its OK for France and PSG to kick out for a high throw in to the defending opponents
to implement a high press
then it should be acceptable for the shite assembled by Wilder to do it
if only they could press anyone being largely immobile and feather weight under challenge
