What has Donovan done wrong?

I understand the call for the lad to start but I also understand why Wilder's wanting to use the more experienced Chong whilst we try and turn a corner and move in the right direction.

The way Donovan was used today was spot on and in essence it's an easier role to do- carry the ball, relieve pressure, win fouls high up and potentially create a moment to kill it, which he nearly did but One skied it.
Fair point, but it seemed to me that we might not have needed anyone to relieve the pressure had Donovan started over Chong because we'd have had more than a one-goal lead. We got into so many good positions that Chong wasted with a poor touch, wrong decision, or cross to nobody.

How has that experience worked out for us so far this season?

BBD and Chong must be the least productive 'wingers' in the league.

I'd be recalling Donovan if he was my player as he is not getting the game time he deserves, got to be a better bet than BBD who went missing the whole game at Portsmouth. Still Wilder doesn't like young players with skill and pace.

What game time does he "deserve"?

To be clear, I think that as things stand he should be starting over 1 of Chong or BBD, but I am not privy to what is happening in training or how his overall fitness has been in recent weeks.

It's also worth remembering that he was sent out on loan for a reason. Loans aren't just about playing time, they are also about absorbing new environments, training and fighting for a place on the teamsheet.

In my opinion, we should be trying to build an attacking game around Oné and Donovan.
Instead, we persist with BBD and Cannon.

Wilder's default is to fallback on "experienced senior players," even when they're mostly experienced in failure.

This season is going to be a drag, it would be nice to have something to be excited about. Seriki and Brooks (and to a lesser extent, Peck) provided that last season.
This season, there's very little to get behind.
Ok, no problem with your opinion, but saying that wilder hasn’t played injured One is just nonsense

To be fair to Wilder, when everyone is fit, we now look like we do have a good mix of wide options.

Chong- mixed bag but tends to look positive, scored his first goal for us recently and played well in international break
BBD- experienced, when everyone is fit, can see him being more used to close games out, than starting. I wonder if he started at the weekend to give Burrows (first game back after injury) a bit more physical cover
Donovan- confident young player who could easily tear this league up. Just needs to not play himself and the team into trouble when in our own half
One- can't wait to see him have a bit of a run of games

This squad actually does have quite a lot of potential, I just hope we can start to see a more consistent form of progress!

I think we could actually get promoted via playoffs

As much as I would love this to happen I still can't see it. I will take mid-table this season. With CW at the helm, we won't get promoted.
You , of course , are probably right . But - I think we have a chance

If we can sneak within a few points of the play offs come new year I think we can push for it. 2/3 signings in the window to add to the squad would be perfect but doubt that will happen haha

For the short amount of time he was on, Donovan really did inject some energy into the game. Twisting and turning, tying the Bristol City defenders up in knots, they just didn't know what to do!

We need to get dog shit wilder gone asap.
The way he treats talented loans it disgraceful.
Clubs will see this and we'll be frozen out.
And who would blame them with this dinosaur in charge.
Just walk wilder , you talentless dog shit dinosaur.
I did laugh at this, it reminded me so much of my post on Saturday evening but I was joking, which I thought was obvious although apparently not to some! I do admire your passion though, genuinely! In fact this was my favorite post of the day by far!

When Wilder proves you wrong though can I gloat and told you I told you so?! 😂 😉

Danny Hall knows:

"Since [Fleetwood], his involvement has been limited to cameo appearances, with Tahith Chong cementing his place on the right of United's attack. Justifiably so, too, with the Curaçao international producing some promising displays either side of scoring his first Blades goal in the 3-0 win over Lincoln City earlier this month."

"[R]eal-life football isn’t a computer game played with robots and numbers and the obvious conclusion is that, at the minute, Chong is doing more (or at least enough things right) to keep his place."
