Thought it was Weston super mare but wasn’t sureThat was from a newspaper report in May 1977
UNITED FANS IN TRAIL OF TERROR AT WESTON.
Sheffield United club secretary Keith Walker denounced as ‘disgusting’ the behaviour
of fans who had smashed up a pub and a seafront zoo in Weston-super- Mare on a weekend trip to watch the Blades last match of the season, a 3-1 defeat against Bristol Rovers.
Nine people were arrested for offences ranging from assault to burglary.
Trouble first flared after Rovers fans invaded the pitch at the end of the game.
There was a fight and a stone throwing battle in a car park.
Many Blades fans had stayed in Weston on the Friday night before the game and went back to the resort after the match.
At the pub, fans in a group of 50 smashed windows and glasses, set off fire extinguishers and helped themselves to drinks.
At the zoo, fish tanks were smashed, and a monkey was released.
The monkey walked back into the zoo five hours later.
RIP Gary. He was a great bloke, & when he was still a teenager he was built like Superman & I thought he would be a right handful as a centre forward, but sadly a footballer he was not.
It was good to know you big guy.
I think Gary was a little older than me, my dad roped me in to play for The Grapes when I was just 14, & he was on the touchline watching not playing at first. His brother Paul was on the left week & Tony was at centre forward. I think it was in my second season that he started making the odd appearance as a sub, but it was obvious he couldn't really play, so from there he became a keeper because he wouldn't have played much as an outfield player. I am not knocking him btw, that's just the way it was.Always in goal when l played against him.
Not the brightest of moves for the West Brom fans to come up those escalators that day !!Thought it was Weston super mare but wasn’t sure
It got tasty in Bristol and had West Brom all over the place in New St station
One I’ll never forget was went on the Lees End at Newcastle Mitch was there along with Dinky , Wafer we stayed on for a good while before being escorted off was only 17 at the timeRIP Mitch. He was one of a handful of Blades from that era along with Cooper man and Shred and some others whose names preceded them. You'd hear about them and you'd at least know them to see. Mitchell was always on the home end at away games along with the 'Barmy Army'. He was broad, well built. And a character. Instantly recognisable and always in the thick of it. His character made him stand out. I remember a particularly riotous day away at Wigan in the 4th. Different era.

Try and tell people these days in their glamorous sparkling stadia ,that in our lifetime ,you could have a mass brawl around the ground while the game was on ,with bricks being lobbed at each other. It kicked off outside well before the match and well after it. Another memory of that day is everyone crowding around someones front room window in a terraced house watching the results while a family sat shitting it inside ,probably waiting for Basil Brush. Was it a Kenworthy pen that won it or am I miles off.RIP Mitch. He was one of a handful of Blades from that era along with Cooper man and Shred and some others whose names preceded them. Think it was a Kenworthy free kick, Larry Lloyd the Wigan player manager was in the wall defending it and was barking orders for no one to move. TK found a gap or bent it, and guess who in the wall moved. You're spot on Sitters regarding the trouble which surprised me about Wigan.Try and tell people these days in their glamorous sparkling stadia ,that in our lifetime ,you could have a mass brawl around the ground while the game was on ,with bricks being lobbed at each other. Yes, Kenworthy free kick early doors. It was an early season match. Brilliant sunshine. Rubble all over the crappy away end behind the goal and pelted with stones by Wigan's mob on the side terrace. I wasn't comfortable dodging stones. One lad in a Blades shirt stood behind me was led away streaming in blood. I was wondering where are our lot? Then Kenworthy scored and they were all on Wigan's side terrace where it all kicked off as they celebrated our goal. Fans running across the pitch from our end to join in the fighting. They were led off into the away end and I noticed Mitch chief among them! That set the pattern for the rest of the season!Think it was a Kenworthy free kick, Larry Lloyd the Wigan player manager was in the wall defending it and was barking orders for no one to move.
