Goal celebrating...

If you think of our squad in the rising years 16-20 we'd recruited younger players whose careers were on an upward trajectory.
You could see in their faces they were honoured & delighted to be here and determined to be a success both individually & collectively.

In contrast , if you recruit the older pros , it's just a job for them.
Their careers have been & gone.

It's human nature to like & wish success for those who have potential and are working hard to maximise it and make their way in the game.
Such as Cooper , Seriki , McCallum , Peck , Blaster , Donovan , Oné ,
With apologies to those I've missed.
They could be our future.

Once the balance tips between ambitious youngsters & short-term old pros , your future diminishes ,
Or could even fall off a cliff - see summer '27.

Wilder is a changed man since 2016-20. He’s also in decline. He’s lost his bottle to go with youthful and hungry players.

The occasional old pro - Billy Sharp , Didsy , Duffy etc - can help , but they have to be committed to the cause and determined to keep fit & playing.

In the old days (not necessarily all good) you went to the game, watched it with no access to other matches and the first news of other scores etc was when you bought a Green Un or heard the results on the radio after arriving home.
Or if you were unfortunate enough to not get to a game, you'd see clusters of men outside shop windows of VisionHire or Radio Rentals at 4:45, watching World of Sport as the results came in on the vidiprinter 😆 .

In the 70s, before live football on TV, people used to go to the pub to listen to the radio commentary

Has he entirely though? The young hungry part?
Or are we basing that on his signings over the past 12 months?

He has introduced a fair few from the academy these past 4 years. Some quicker than others. (Arblaster, Peck, Brooks, Seriki and now One. With Baptiste on the fringes too)
Burrows fits in with the young hungry player, and in a way so did Campbell for the first season. Heck even Cannon is only 23 whatever the opinion is on him.
I'm hoping that Marsh's form continues and he may come back into the fold from Chessy. It's not out of the question unless we didn't put a clause in.

But this season and last Jan we have certainly seen more being signed with "experience". Which you do need.
But we do also need to complement that with as you say young and hungry players. I think a few younger one's would have helped potentially.
Players that have some unpredictability about them. Donovan falls in that category on loan.

Guess we will see what happens next window. Of course matters with the ownership will guide that alongside where we are in the table.

Nah. World of Sport was showing wrestling when the results were coming in. It was always Grandstand. (GRANDSTAND).

True. I mis-remembered that.
Although I'm sure they later had in-vision scores when the wrestling was on...I distinctly remember seeing scores flash up on Rollerball Rocco v Giant Haystacks.

I guess what I meant is, he’s lost his bottle to build a team and system around those younger players and playing to their strengths like he did before - we were so much more energetic back then, we would swarm opposition players and play on the front foot. All that has all but disappeared now from how Wilder likes to play and probably even how he comes across in interviews. Hes very pedestrian now and so is our play.

Did anyone else think that all three goal celebrations by our players were a bit muted?
No wild fist pumping after sprinting across the pitch, jusr a steady jog up and a pat on the back.

Just me?
Said the same on our pod. It did feel very muted. I think its because expectations are at a low right now. The second and third goals were a better reaction from the supporters but the first Patty Bamfs goal was also a surprise and against the run of play.

I had to do a double-take. No-one was expecting us to score. If anyone we expected Lincoln to get one. Even Bamford looked a bit surprised it went in.

People were too much in shock to celebrate.

just dont think theres any enthusiasm from our fans to this set of players or wilders tactics most of our fans look like their at the lane under sufference because theyve bought a season ticket oh for the intimidating atmospheres at the lane back in the day when away players and fans hated coming here when it was worth a goal start to the team utb ftp ⚔️⚔️⚔️

I remember the celebrations in the stands and pitch side when Donovan scored against Bolton in 90+3 were pretty jubilant.

Its much to do with the match , the opposition, the timing , drama etc.
