any time Marsh has played at our level, even in cups against lower opposition, he has looked like a kid in a mans game. Miles off it right now. Maybe he gets there but physically I don't think he has it. Look at a Louie Reed who has had a great career in the lower leagues type future I suspect.

It’s based on what evidence is out there. There’s no outrage, just educated guesses.

Happy to here a logical counter argument if you have one.
 
We get to name 9 substitutes. Surely we could find space to include a couple of the better up and coming players from the under 21 squad without leaving ourselves exposed. Just take a look at our bench on Saturday and it is a pretty depressing read. Of the 9 only Donavon and at a push possibly Cannon could be classed as players who are an an upward career trajectory. Of the rest nearly all are past their prime and on a downward path and unlikely (hopefully) to be with us in 12 months time. Personally I would rather see the likes of Marsh who have the potential to improve and develop rather than waste money on the likes of Ayew, Rothwell, Shackleton etc.

Davies - solid backup keeper
Doherty - culture carrier; experience >>> youth
Rothwell - see Doherty
Cannon - Wilder’s big bet. #9. £10,000,000.
Ayew - see Doherty
Donovan - contractual obligation to have him in the Matchday squad
Shackleton - unlucky with injuries. Had we not given him a 3 year deal he’d be tearing up the PL with Hull.
Chongeh - good lad
McGuinness - well, we needed a 9th sub.
 
Wonder how having 3 recent + RND ( 27 now) ex academy players starting in the side compares to the rest of the league?

That subs bench is the definition of a club teetering on the edge of the abyss.
There is literally no hope for our future in there.
We are sleepwalking towards oblivion with Wilder's recruitment.
Where are the kind of signings he made in 16-19 ?
Unearthing young fit lower league players who put everything into our success coz they wanted to develop thenselves.

The PL contract Leicester gave him should not be used to estimate the contract we have given him now. He could've been on £100,000 a week then, but if nobody wants to pay a tenth of that now it means nothing.

As mentioned in the earlier post; his previous salary, average salaries in the league, what salaries we pay players.

I see you chose not to provide your own counter evidence for why it’s somehow impossible we’d be paying him £20k a week.

Ok, please can you show the evidence of:
  • his previous salary
  • the average salary in the league
  • what salaries we pay players

I’m saying that the above points are speculation - the evidence for something being speculation is the lack of evidence.

Here are the sources you asked for:
  • His Leicester salary: SalaryLeaks lists £23,000 a week, while Salary Sport lists £45,000. The truth probably exists somewhere in the middle, or the former amount was maybe a reduced salary post relegation.
  • Championship salaries: Salary Sport puts the average at £18,140 a week across 481 senior players. Given we still have one of the highest wage bills in the league, it’s not a stretch to think we we will be around that or higher, for experienced players.
  • Salary Sport gives United’s senior players an average of £25,695, although that is inflated by its Phillips, Doherty and Hamza figures (plus randomly including Jack Rodwell, albeit on a very low value). It is missing current first team players though too, for balance.
These are published estimates, and I’m treating them as such. I haven’t claimed to have seen Ayew’s contract or established that he earns £20,000 a week. My point is that it’s a plausible figure in the context of his reported previous wages and the estimated wages at this level and at the club.

So, for the third time: what evidence do you have to say that £20,000 a week isn’t plausible? Pointing out that it hasn’t been confirmed doesn’t establish that it’s implausible.

From what I've seen of Marsh, he's going to be a L1/L2 player. Good talent but not physically up to higher levels or showing the decision making/class in the opportunities given.

Ayew might yet get fit and be an asset. He might not.
 
Admittedly I've only ever seen Marsh play in the daft cup games... but... at 22yo, id say there's probably a reason he's never played at a higher level than League 2.

For comparison, Tom Cannon was a full international at 21.

I haven’t said that it’s implausible.

I said that it’s speculation, which it is. The sources you cite are helpful for putting together a guess - but that’s exactly what it is. Even if the sources are correct, we still require a large degree of supposition to arrive at a value of £20,000 a week. It’s plausible that it’s £20,000 but it’s also plausible that it’s quite a lot lower given his age and situation.

My point is that people have jumped to conclusions and are angry about a speculative value, when they simply don’t know what it is.
 
Thinking if we are safe from relegation in January? Should look at gradually bringing both into the first team squad, with being given game time.
We are not going to be a high spending club, need to get our house in order.
The club need to set a stratergy for the next two to three seasons.
No matter what you think about our new owners. They are looking at trying to make this club secure. This comes with wise management, ask any business owner they will say the same.

He doesn't like bringing youth through, he doesn't trust them. But if Marsh leaves the club without having a proper run in the team or chance to prove himself it would be the biggest damning indictment on both the manager and coaching staff yet. He has everything you'd want from a deep lying forward/number 10 at this level. He's basically a young Bamford, and it's crazy that we haven't just had him as his understudy for the season...

Went to the Hallam game pre season. He didn’t look that slight on pitch compared to some of the Center backs he was up against. I’d have him back in that squad. We are a team screaming out for creativity

Osula is anything but a 'technical footballer' he's a genetic freak who is fast as fuck and physical as they come, the football has been coached into him but he couldn't trap a bag of cement even now

For balance people were saying the same about Seriki until he started playing regularly when Mee picked up a knock and Tanganga had to go back to CB. He had a stinker of a loan at Rotherham the season before too.
 
Neither. The Ayew signing apart from 5 mins against Wolves has predictably been a shocker that needs knocking on the head. Marsh currently is miles off the champ, he is doing the right thing getting a season out on loan in league 2, hopefully he gets through it without any injuries as he does seem to pick a few up

If our strength and conditioning people haven't managed to get him up to scratch for championship football then questions need asking. There's a reason they haven't sold him yet.
