The gradual overinflation of transfer fees in the Premier League has been spreading into the EFL for a while. L1 clubs are starting to recognise that they're able to really squeeze more money out of their most valuable assets. Peterborough have done it for years already, but there hasn't really been anyone else joining in until now.

I suspect the fee Boreham Wood got for Abdulmalik was an eye raiser for a few clubs. A non-league player going for nearly £2million is a startling figure.
