Five Potential Replacements

I’m aware there’s already a lot of discussion on this; but without wanting to beat a dead horse, I figured a poll might be quite interesting.

I just saw a post from Bet365 about potential candidates to replace Wilder and some of them are definitely more appealing than others.

Personally, I’d take any of them, barring probably Scott Parker, over keeping Wilder for the rest of the season.

Unfortunately I think I’ve left it too long to edit the post- they’d all be good shouts; though I can’t see the club paying compensation going for a manager who’s currently employed vs these options who are all currently without a club.

Yes to all of them (Mousinho is my preference) but theres no way we’re tempting them away from their clubs to come and manage our shit show. Mousinho maybe as he’s been there a few seasons and might fancy a change but BBM and Cleverly are flying.

Cooper would never come to us. He'd take one look at our squad, laugh and say no thanks. Same with Parker. This squad needs work and a rebuild and his forte has been managing parachute payment clubs who were already 80% complete when he took the job. He seems to like an "easy" job and would be put off by the challenge.

As for Hecky, yes as a director of football, no as manager. We can't keep living in the past and I don't give a toss if he "gets us." We can't move on and change if we only ever hire managers who "get us" as they will keep doing what we've always done. I liked him as person and we treated him badly. But his injuries record has followed him everywhere and it cost him his job at Preston. He did a good job for us but he was very much like Wilder in that he made subs after a team scored, which we all saw coming, instead of before to prevent it. He had a plan A and his plan B was keep doing plan A but make some subs. Even then his subs were often baffling. A very likeable man and very humble, but limited in his tactical nuance. Not for me as manager thanks.

Cleverly could be an interesting option if jones was to stick around.

We'd need a manager with experience of turning around a side with low confidence that's on the slide. A manager that has a proven track record of successful rebuilds with no money. A manager that can work as more than just a head coach but effectively run every department of the football club because that's what he will be needed to do. All while avoiding getting sucked into the bottom 3 under threat of a points deduction. Ideally the manager will have experience of finding a successful formation with a squad that has one winger and no attacking midfielders.

Ultimately we just need a manager who is open to signing exciting players and playing expansive football. Hecky as DoF could work, his recruitment was excellent.

Wilder beat Parker in the 2021-22 season.

I was a fan of Wilder, however getting very concerned. But be honest, who would want to come and manage here????? Your best three creative players sold, not replaced.
Forget all the "names", they will give this job a wide berth. The lack of investment from the owners is seen by all outside the club.
I think CW has while Dec/Jan, if we are still in the bottom 6, a decision will be made. As of now , I just hope we can do enough to stay in the championship.

He’s not walking away, partly because he needs/wants the money partly because he cares about the club, he’s fed up like the rest of us though and would welcome the sack from what I’ve been told (someone I know who speaks with him very regularly)

Can’t see them sacking him as they just don’t care, sounds like both wilder and the players have lost interest though, I think there’s a real chance of relegation.

For me he's always walked into the "easy" jobs taking over teams with the best squads in the Championship. He has no track record for turning around a squad like ours, which is a mess and needs a lot of work. I think his record flatters him.

Certainly not a bad list - and yet I struggle to confidently put my weight (and its a lot of weight, as I’m very fat) behind any of them.

Edwards did brilliantly at FGR and initially at in his first 2 seasons at Luton, but the lack of impact he had on their tailspin into League One is alarming, especially with our current situation.

Challinor did well at Stockport, but unproven at this level.

Parker has a weird knack for the league, but I struggle to rate him.

I assume the people who voted for Hecky are joking.

I voted for Cooper, he did an amazing job for the England youth sides, Swansea, and Forest… but his last two jobs have been disasters.

I voted for Cooper in the hopes that Leicester and Brondby were even worse basket cases than we are.

They got promoted mainly on loan players who became key to them. When they went up they had to spend a fortune as they had to replace them all with permanent signings, which nearly backfired as they spent two seasons fighting relegation, which is where they are again now.

Lincoln's manager who got them promoted, Skubala, is now at Bristol city
