did he sign a 2 year deal with lower wages?

Perhaps we should be inviting free agent Ebanks-Blake to train with us?
He's only 28 and scored 14 goals in The Championship the season before last.
Definitely the type of player / goalscorer we need and worth having a look at surely.

Injury prone,with a big salary.

Well he's earning sod all at the moment and Oldham appears to be his other main option.
I doubt his salary would be beyond our means if he could prove his fitness in training.

Just remember, fans and detractors alike....there is only one 'Chris Porter'

I'm not sure what level of journalist the Oldham Chronicle attracts, but I find the notion that Poleon could become a £5 million player in 12 months like Assombalonga did quite fanciful, based on his appearances for us, when presumably he was trying to impress.

It doesn't say Porter would be going there and assuming Clough wanted him as a cheap option, why would he let him go on loan now? Porter was roundly booed throughout the end of season 1-1 draw in April, so he may not be that keen on going back there, although he might consider booing a badge of honour, given how well he did for them last time around....

Mick McCarthy bought him for Ipswich on the basis of his performances under him for Wolves, then released him 6 months later which I think sums why we should not touch him with a barge pole

McCarthy signed him on a FREE transfer for "Championship" Ipswich and released him when his contract expired.
That doesn't mean he couldn't theoertically drop down a level and still get goals.
He was regularly playing 26 to 44 games a season for Wolves before he broke his leg, so "injury prone" is a harsh label.
Overall, he's played more football than Stephen Davies who we're supposed to be willing to pay a big fee for.

I wasn't suggesting we should pay a record transfer fee and break the wage scale for him.
Having a look at him training isn't going to break the bank.

If ports leaves we'll be getting another striker in on loan from a higher level so his departure would more than likely be beneficial

To be fair to Poleon,he only started 3 league games for us,but like you say, can't see him been worth as much as Assombalonga but you never know with some of the transfer prices we get this day and age,its gone bonkers.

Oldham fans hate him dont they? Sure they were chanting "money grabbing wanker" at him last time we played them at home. Think he left them for higher wages.

That's right, and it was a marked difference to the way they treated Baxter.

Corrected that for you.

I am suggesting that Mick McCarthy found he was not anything like the same player that he was before his injury. He did not renew his contract even though Ipswich's main striker was a) injured and b) a potential candidate for a move to the Premiership.

Maybe bring him in on a pay as you play basis until he proves his fitness?

Because he went to Scotland meaning Oldham didn't get a fee for him as he was out of contract. That's why they hated him so much. If he rejoined them they would change their minds

Oldham manager wants him if he scores many goals the fans will shut up.

Chris Porter done deal tonight, he off to Oldham.

Stop getting my hopes up now:D

Seriously though good luck to the bloke if true, good bloke, but just a very limited footballer and only Cloughy knows why he resigned him.

He can only have been on a few hundred quid a week, and that's not a high price to pay for his experience as cover. After his efforts and goals last season we owed him something in my opinion. We could have just cut him loose, or we could have put him on a 1-year low-money contract with an understanding that he'd move on if an offer came in, which it looks like we have done. Good luck to the lad.

Porter been training with Oldham. Its seem the blades given him permission to do this .
