Sponsor women’s player

I was looking further although I am likely to sponsor a women’s player after reading about their charity work and after watching them live, I don’t think I appreciated the work ethic for little reward that they bring to our brand.

For £220 (inclusive of VAT) you can sponsor a player, currently only 3 of the squad are sponsored for this season who are Molly Graham, Lauren Thomas and Mollie Rouse. With approval it could be a forum thing if you didn’t want to pay the full amount, get 22 together at £10 each or something similar, it’s affordable and for a price of a couple of beers can help the club and also the women’s team

Would the money go to the club or to the women’s group or the actual player sponsored. ?

It goes into the clubs commercial and operational budget for the women’s team to help cover the costs of running the side. Such as travel and training etc. As a group the PL2 (2nd tier) don’t release their salaries however according to the guardian top earners that have stepped down a level are on £20-40k a year some were on £4-6k a year but they are collectively working as a group to expand salaries to having a minimum wage

You could but then you could argue apart from the Premier League nearly every club needs the money. Non-League mens side do need sponsors and cash but the reason they are half price is due to the exposure to they get. With our women’s side hosting at Bramall lane and also bearing the same kit, name, logo and website, coverage is a bigger market. It might not be 100% right but if as a business you were advertising yourself as a shirt sponsor to a SUFC women’s side the men’s side would get a mention

It’s an interesting one regards finances.

Think initially the men’s side of the business should support and subsidise the women’s section but at what stage should it be expected to be self supporting?
5 years, 10 years, 20 years or for ever?

Noticed the attendance was 1,049 on Sunday against Leicester, with an average ticket price of roughly £7, that’s gate income of £7,343.
There’s 11 home league matches a season = £80,770….
Let’s say 20 squad players need paying, that’s £4,000 per annum, not enough to pay anyone a full-time living wage.
Of course they’ll be additional income from sponsorship but there’s expenses too, like electricity, staff costs, travel to away matches etc.

Does make me wonder if the WSL was too ambitious by making both the WSL and from 2024 WSL2 professional leagues.
Maybe the top flight should be professional but how can players at WSL2 be professional on such a low salaries? No wonder players are calling for a liveable wage.

Appreciate there’s added indirect value (positive publicity) in having a women’s team but it does make me wonder if business focussed owners might give negligible attention, just pay lip service to that side of the business or even eventually close down a continually loss making women’s team.

Unless popularity/ income start increasing then it’s in danger of becoming a vanity project…that only the wealthy clubs can afford to invest in.
Note: Think popularity and income for certain clubs (like Arsenal, maybe Man C and Chelsea) is really impressive but unfortunately they are a one off.
Arsenal are showing the way to go, easily the best supported women’s team in world football averaging 33K attendances. So it can be done.
