It was quite clear we were going to cut our cloth this season and there would be player sales. Professional football players want to play in the best teams pushing for promotions and prizes.
Brooks was never fully rated / appreciated by Wilder and if the rumours are true Norwich offered to double his money. Norwich are putting together an exciting front foot attacking football team. He’s got the opportunity to play in a better team than us for double the money.
COH will have obviously wanted to go to Wrexham. One of the richest teams outside of the premier league. Some of the Wrexham players are now global celebrities with multi million pound sponsorship deals and businesses out side of football. They’re on the exact opposite trajectory to us. They are spending money on players, infrastructure and everything around the club.
Ultimately it’s a job to them. If someone offered me double my money I’d be off tomorrow too.
It’s not the players behaviour that is worrying, it’s the fact that we’ve sold all our creative players with absolutely zero plan to replace them.
If we had sold OHare and Brooks for £16 million combined and bought Cleary and JRS for £6 million combined and banked £10m the fans would have seen it as sensible.
I think the club probably expected a much bigger offer to come in for Peck from Brentford or West Ham and when that didn’t materialise panic sold Ohare to keep us ticking over.
It’s wank, but it’s absolutely not on the players themselves. I’ll probably just ignore both of them.
