Not sure that even with this squad that we’re heading towards a relegation battle (potential for point deductions aside), but I think it’s more to do with the defence becoming solid…

Encouraging to see that the midfield has much more depth already this season

There did seem to be a lot going early last night, didn’t there.
It’s all personal choice but they missed a brilliant moment at a time we all needed a little pick me up.
Cooper was back to his best & Donovan’s goal was a superb way to win it.
 
He was brilliant from start to finish last night.

The one outfield player that continually looked forward and tried to play positive football.

He’s raw, incredibly one footed and inconsistent but my word he’s got something about him and when he’s on one like last night he’s going to be a pleasure to watch.

Along with cooper he was easily MOTM and the best player on the pitch.

What impressed me most was his appetite - the intensity of his work, his ground coverage, and the fact he could make a forward run in the last minute and hold off defenders.

That’s an innate quality we saw in MGW and Iliman. It’s partly fitness but mostly it attitude. Premier league standard stuff.

We’ll need to look after him if last night’s physical output is his default.

He works fucking hard, both ways. He was busting his arse to get back in and help Choudhury as much as he was busting his arse to carry the ball forwards.

He’s a very likeable player.
 
It's been so long since we got a late winner or equaliser at Bramall Lane that it almost took me by surprise – I had genuinely got used to that being something that happened to other people.
 



Donovan looked a big talent from first friendly highlights. Hopefully he can provide end product all season, but he's also very young.

I think he just hit the ball as best he could under quite a lot of pressure. Thought it was deflected initially. Did well to score it, but not one I'd expect to see anywhere near a goal of the month competition.

If he can keep that type of performance up, he will be up there with the likes of MGW for being a fantastic one-season-wonder, and make it a pleasure going to BDTBL again.

I am really hoping his positive attitude rubs off on some of our other players and they start to play more on the front foot.

At 19 years of age, it should the other way round, of course, with him learning from our lads, but sometimes just that fear-nothing, youthful exuberance can help lift the players around you.

In a couple of his other games, he was being closed down by two or three players and ran into dead ends. Last night, he was being closed down by two or three players and often came away with the ball due to his trickery and skill, almost as if a light bulb had gone on and he suddenly thought, "I can do this".

Every time he got on the ball last night, and it didn't come off, I would say to Mrs Grappler, "at least the lad is trying to do something".

A last minute winner, in front of the Kop, stuff of dreams for a kid his age.
 
It was a good performance but tell.hes been wilderised, lots of chances to run but instead just turned the ball back and waited

I agree with you that inverted wingers are the current norm in football, they’re clearly effective as well as they are so widely used

In his post match interview he does say he’s comfortable on both sides and Brentford had used him down the left (obviously in the u21’s or whatever)

So we do have that option if say BBD is injured we could use Donovan and Chong.

I had the pleasure of being sat next to someone blowing their nose viewing the contents and also picking their nose constantly during the pitch. I swear he was wiping his boogers on his mate next to him. It seems like I will be having to witness this for the rest of the season. 🤢

There was me thinking it was Virgil van Dijk that was a dirty tramp.
 
i thought donovan looked good when he was switched to the left all we seem to see these days are trendy 'inverted' wingers and think it might be worth considering once seriki and chong are back to play down the right
 
As excited as I am in having Donovan for this season and providing he keeps his head down, works hard and stays away from injury, we surely have some player in our squad, but what’s really depressing is that our club is having to turn to clubs like Brentford to help us out. No disrespect to Brentford as they have earned their right to be where they are, but it’s plain to see how the tables of fortunes have turned over the years. Same applies to Brighton where not too many years ago they were groundless and having to play on a local playing field with charity buckets been handed around.

Whilst I understand the sentiment, in the current landscape of English football, Brentford is exactly who we should have been looking to learn from and I have absolutely zero issue taking players on loan from them. They have, IMHO, set the bar for recruiting young talent that go on to great things, including helping the first team compete at Premier League level. I find it more depressing that we've spoiled chances to mirror their off-field model when our own opportunities came our way.

Yeh but for every Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth you have bigger clubs like Bradford City, Notts County, even Huddersfield who seem to be permanently stuck in the lower divisions.

At least we’re not in league 1 and when we lost the final home game against Scunthorpe under Adkins it’s the lowest I’ve ever felt supporting the Blades because it suddenly dawned on me we could be spending 20 plus years at league 1 level. Then Wilder arrived.

It is interesting how all the recent over achieving clubs all seem to be London based or South coast based which is close to London.
