CONFIRMED Callum O'Hare - signs for Wrexham

I'm just quite gobsmacked that given the glaring issue of creativity we've sold our last remaining creative player. It's quite clearly not going to be fixed, either.
Bamford has been more creative since he arrived. Let’s see if anyone comes in before we all explode.

When we talk about sliding-door moments, today really could be one of them.

If we sell O’Hare and Cannon, don’t reinvest, or simply don’t have the time to bring players in, and we’re probably looking at relegation — especially with the potential 12-point deduction coming our way (and maybe even without it).

Reinvest at least £8 million, bring in two decent wingers and a striker on loan, and we could potentially rebuild into a competitive 4-3-3 that makes effective use of our abundance of half-decent holding midfielders.

Decisions made by the club hierarchy in the next 12 hours could genuinely define the next 5 years.
I'd suggest that the new owners going all in on Wilder, giving him 10 million for Cannon, Chris's negative tactics and his team folding against our promotion rivals and in the PO final, the turgid boring football last season and this, his inability to have a plan B since 2021, his endless clichés and 'type' of player that obviously stands by ('gets it' whatever that's supposed to mean, mature, 'culture carriers' & English, in what he clearly sees as his own image and the myopic and limited recruitment team) have defined the next 5 years equally.

Thankfully he, and we, have the 16-21 memories to keep because the rest of his tenure has been sub optimal.

If he wasnt an ex player and from Sheffield, and by god does he love his ex players, I doubt very much that he'd have still been tolerated as much as he has.

God awful start to a season this is really worse than selling Deane and fjortoft on the same day

What a fantastic way to start the morning. Selling COH (most likely for peanuts). His replacement will be a loan aswell which actually pisses me off more thinking about it!! The fact we are selling our best player to a rival is an absolute joke. I really do think this season is going to be a struggle to watch.

As much as i have been in the Wilder out camp. I can't imagine he would have sanctioned these transfers and genuinely feel sorry for him now that we can't get his targets.

I really hope CW will stay the season now as can't imagine a manager of quality will want to take the reins here with us.

I was firmly CW IN. Because this season was always lined up to be a shit show and I think he’d keep us up.

But he is losing me with his actions over the summer. Has he shown any inclination to get creativity in? I cant see it, he’s too busy wasting resources on back up centrebacks and 3rd choice full backs.

Like Can anyone tell me What the fuck is Doherty doing here? No offense to the guy but wilders signed him to cheerlead - could his not insubstantial wages not have gone on an attacker?

Wilder seems perfectly content to strip the side of talent, flair, excitement, creativity and goals without seeking replacements.

His perfect 11 based on his signings feels like it would be 5 defenders, 4 defensive midfielders and Tom Cannon.

I mean similar quality as in top end chamionship player and availability along with the fitness. Its why I mention or someone better suited to how we want to play.

I agree we shoehorn ohare into the team. But we havnt built a team around him or his qualities properly.

If we can get £7-8m for him and bring in some pace and genuine quality then its not end of the world.

Id like to see a proper lw and a big althetic striker but I still feel we are missing a proper attacking minded midfielder, someone that can carry the ball and beat a man & drive from middle (lookman style of midfielder).
Two things to ponder in your (sensible) post:

1- Do you trust the board to support the reinvestment for said players?

2- Do you believe that if the investment is available, the manager also agrees the areas we are desperate for players?

Amazing how little we have to show for having been in the PL.

Is the current squad actually any better than the one which came up from league 1 years ago? Noone in the side could touch prime fleck, bash , JOC etc.

Bet we sell COH but ‘stand firm’ on Cannon for some unknow Reason to enjoy his 4 goals (3 pens) over the rest of the season. To see him leave for free at the end of his deal
Yep - circa £500 million squandered since 2019!!! We are a test case for how to use Premier League money so badly!

Billy’s free ain’t he, as we seem to be scraping the barrel with ex-players.

Starting to think we are in an even bigger financial mess than we realise. Selling Callum really is telling the squad why bother. If we get a decent replacement maybe things will look up, but not holding my breath.

If he goes which is an if, his time with us is an interesting one. He's never been a fans favorite which is strange in a way because overall he's done well, particularly last season. But he's not someone who gets you off your seat somehow. In a way I was expecting more, but I feel harsh saying that and it might seem contradictory to the rest of the post.

At Coventry he was a big favourite as was Gus. To a lesser extent Gus didn't reach the same popularity as he did at Coventry neither. Not like a Bash, JOC or Baldock, Mcgoldrick etc. Maybe we just prefer the lower profile signings?
i have never been a massive fan of coh if im honest but understand why many blades fans are great energy and commitment just dont think he fits wilders preferred tactics

It's not. But it is a fucking shocking start to the season.

Mind, I expect us to spend 3m or so on someone like Cleary by the end of the day.

This is absolutely shocking. Brooks was bad enough. We all understood Gus but to do this is just waving a white flag. These owners are pathetic and deserve absolutely no respect from anyone. It was obvious they were parasites about 10 minutes after they walked through the door. Turned us into relegation candidates in 18 months.
Dunno why you're shocked.
Maybe you're thinking we're a football club ?
To the idiot yanks , we're just a bad investment they need to exit.
There's no prospect of progress without parachutes , so tidy up the balance sheet just like the prince did in 23/24 , risk getting relegated but get sold.

1 - no

2 - unsure (id like to think yes, but we know how blinkered he can get on targets).

My biggest bug bare with CW is that he says one thing and then acts completely different so it’s hard to trust him anymore….

It started with his ‘nobodies boy’ comment and now he clearly is somebodies boy … wants to play on the fact he’s a fan but then side steps questions that the fans want answers to… happy to drink it up in the boozers when the odd result goes his way but won’t own it when they don’t ….

And it’s clear with his answers recent that the winners want him to coach the squad and not be involved in trf…. But he lacks the ability to coach … he is a very good man manager but lot a coach

Not a ST holder but unfortunately already have a ticket for tonight so I feel obliged to go but its the last thing i feel like doing. There have been so many downs supporting this club over many years and now another massive downer. It's not just the selling of one player but the cumaltive effect of the decisions made by these shysters over the past 18 months. i havenever considered myself a quitter but I really now have had enough. I feel for all those who have committed by buying season tickets

Brooks, Hamer and O'Hare in one window

Phenomenal, historic

We'll obviously look back on this as a pivotal moment in a couple of years time, when we're slumming about in L1 with Nigel Clough back in charge (genuinely, that will happen)

Ffs. Hard to see much creativity now. Might as well knock it down the line and into the channels for Jock and Bradders to cross it in. I’d actually be alright with that style, but we don’t seem to play with real intent whatever we do.
