Hard to even put into words how I feel about United now. As much as I'm a huge advocate for modernising the set up, I do think United are a bit 'different'.

A club for who ruining others day is almost as important as celebrating success. Provincial, independent, thrive on dislike, obstinate, spiky, unpleasant to be around for non Blades. If we ever did become another identikit, 'polished' club I think the heart of it would die a little.

But there needs to be something more than Wilder, Bettis and a dream. I think we'll likely be fine eventually, and hopefully the current owners shuffle off forthwith.

I just don't want it to be dull. I'm here for the moments, not the trophies

Fucking up someone's day is beautiful. Not sending them down or anything like that, necessarily, but halting a play-off charge, equalising with 9 men, winning with your only shot on target after being outplayed for 90 minutes, it's what I live for.

That Blackburn game the other year when we were hanging on for dear life, Reda Khadra missed a pen and then we went up the other end and stole a last minute winner.

That's my absolute top example of what I'm talking about! Down to 10 as I recall, ripped to bits by Khadra, smashed a late winner. Fantastic times.

i just want to be competitive. have great times with my friends & family. i want more days like Mansfield or even wembley was a great memory until it went wrong

hopefully be entertained along the way

Beating Hull this year was pretty sweet too, even if the season turned out much better for them than us.

I, like every other Blade of course, have been hurt more times than I care to remember. I know they say you make your own luck, but come on, when have the Blades ever had the rub of the green compared to all our heart breaking moments.

Off the top of my head - Don Given's pen. The bizarre set of results to send us down at Chelsea in 94. I still can't believe it - it was hard walking out of Stamford Bridge that day. Hopkin for Palace last minute play off screamer into top corner. The countless other play off defeats - Sunderland last minute goal again being a particularly hard pill to swallow. The relegation in 2007 with the West Ham debacle.......... the list goes on and on.

So, how do I feel?...... I suppose numb is the word - I am like a battered housewife and one more kick doesn't really hurt that much. I go now to have a few beers with the lads and enjoy the day out more than just the 90 minutes. I am a Blade, I have the teeshirt, I have the tattoo and I have the mental scars.

I'm advancing in years now and finally maybe erm well, perhaps lol have realised that there are other, more important things in life that matter more than what the result is at 5:55 on a Saturday afternoon. Does it still hurt - oh yes. But do I now have my tea and chat to the family following a defeat? Yep, as I said there are more important things in life.

I dont feel any different to how I felt when I 1st walked into a very different Bramall lane years ago.

Football has changed and we've changed with it , the ground , the academy , the scale of the operation , standing still was never an option and will never be an option.

Owners , players , managers come and go but generally weve moved forward with a few backward steps here and there.

If we look at our neighbours with little or no ground improvement, a second rate academy , a council training ground in a tent we can see what standing still looks like .

Its still the blades , its still the lane ,that bit is just the same.

There’s still more to us than the current set up. Like the great John Harris and Dave Bassett, Wilders legend status is in stone. Time will tell if that diminishes but it won’t, can’t, disappear.

United have always been underfunded, often that couple of players short of having a real go. The older generation know that and lived with it. There’s nothing new, financially wise, that we haven’t seen before.

Still a proper club with plenty of proper supporters who get what we are all about. Always had moaners, John Street seats for those old enough 😁
But even they managed to keep their beds dry unlike the Twitter/Facebook gobshites who know even less about football than they do about football finances.

The strong core is still there imo. It’s always been there. Along with the love for the club, Millwall style attitude and humour.

Don’t know why you mentioned Bettis, you should have been around when Dick Wragg held the power.

We love United. We don't have a barrow of money, but it doesn't matter. PL Efl championship,
L1. , L2. Irrelevant we'll support you forever more

I definitely don't feel the same about United these past few years as I did for my entire life before that.

It's partly because football is much less enjoyable generally, so I'm just not into the whole sport as much as I was.

A massive part for me is that I can't shake the feeling that we had our shot at establishing ourselves in the top flight, playing in Europe and maybe even winning something, but it was robbed from us by a once in a lifetime freak event. I just can't see us getting that chance again in my lifetime, and even if we did, it wouldn't be the same. That has taken away the hope that used to get me through.

It's also clear to me that the future isn't really for me. We'll eventually be owned by rich people with no connection to the club, with mainly foreign players and coaching staff on astronomical amounts of money - making the personnel much less relatable. Some of that has already happened and the atmosphere has already died, but it's only going to get worse.

My love for Sheffield United came from my Dad taking me to the match home and away to watch players that I looked up to, and because I loved the build up (coach/train/pub) and the atmosphere, all the time convincing myself that we'd one day get our turn at some success. I'm not sure anyone of those things are there any more (except my Dad, who won't be forever).

dOF in hell 🤣

The dream I suppose is to modernise whilst keeping our spirit. It's so hard to do though. Wrexham are only heading one way but they're not the same club anymore. Man City were once renowned for their gallows humour but they've totally changed. I don't know how you balance being successful and still being the club that fans first fell in love with. Most fans probably wouldn't care as long as we were successful but as Carlton says, United are a bit "different" and that's important to me. I don't want to ever lose being disliked. I want every single person in the country to prefer Wednesday. I hate it when I see people say "I like United more than Wednesday". It's not what we're about at all.

Honestly I'm getting into the last leg of my existence on this world, along with the normal lottery win over 50m. A night with 29yo Sophia loren ( with lots of viagra) and knowing my kids and grandchildren all follow the blades ( which as of writing this they all do , the littlest 4yo his other granddad is trying to get him to the dark side my lad rang me laughing because he had said " fuck off granddad they're shit " ) for which my onerous DIL blamed me and tried to ban me seeing him .
Back to the blades established EPL with dore finished and producing good players for the first team, a foray into Europe every other season.
I doubt I'll ever see it .

Id like us to be in the press for footballing reasons. Bad news follows us around like a bad smell. Owners thay pay their debts and transfer fees. Id love for somone to take over the club and just be decent. Engage with the fans, demand a plan B we need life after Wilder. I dont want us spending fortunes progression from the academy to improve and play football like we did in the championship MK1 Wilder.

Just one foray into Europe would do me. I think I could die content with that.

We’ve had some great managers that have fit the club but not backed by the club I think I’ll add that Dave Bassett was so poorly funded we could have grown much more if the owners had invested but because history says success won’t last long they wouldn’t put in which is a shame as the PL had just started and clubs became rich quick.

To have confidence in our future, feel as though we are going to have some success, I look at clubs like Brentford, Bournemouth and as much as I want them to be successful i wonder why not us?

Good question. Disconnected, disillusioned. BDTBL used to be an arena where visiting players shrank and visiting managers praised us,noise, atmosphere was second to none and we had a great identity,it’s been sucked out of us at present.I’m from that side of town but I could never, ever be part of that delusional cult of a fan base,I despise them with a passion. Always proud to be a Blade. Moving forward, the football and excitement that Wilder mk1 played sometime soon repeated by somebody.

I'll always love the Blades, have done since my first game in 1967. I have, and will continue to forgive them most things on what's been an absolute roller coaster of highs and lows following the bunch of bastards. I couldn't forgive them merging or moving from the Lane, they wouldn't be my club anymore anf if either of those things happened, at that point I'd walk away.

My problem is modern football. I just don't like it anymore. It's soft, it's sanitized, it's over hyped, it's played by cheats and it's poorly officiated. I watch my team, probably always will but I fell out of love with it all a long time back.

I don't expect a lot so tend to not be too disappointed.

I'm just a bit sour on things at the moment. We're obviously better off than many other clubs and their fans at this point, but the way we went from the late 2010's, and the best team we've had in my memory (born in '88, so I don't remember anything of the Bassett years), to utterly squandering that success during the 2020's.

I want custodians of my football club who actually give a shit. These blokes that sit at the top at the moment, were questionable when they came in, and have only gotten worse since. They've shown nothing to suggest they're at all equipped to run a football club, seem to have no understanding of its fans beyond meaningless platitudes, and we look like going nowhere but backwards, and at a swift pace to boot.

I know Wilder has his supporters, but I simply don't see the charm anymore. We had the upbeat, happy-go-lucky CW that launched us into the Premier League, but that isn't the man in charge right now. He looks as exhausted with things as I feel.

He looks like he desperately wants more than he has to work with, but knows that he isn't getting anything but scraps. Which, given the repeated comments about "frees and loans", is exactly what we're getting. If he is willing to tough it out and stay, then I think we manage to stay in the Championship, at least for a little while. I think now, even in a lesser version of his former self, that he has sufficient know-how to get enough out of this squad to stay clear of the bottom 3. But...

We don't have enough to finish even top half. The squad is too thin, even if we get a few more deals done, to handle a full Championship season without a drop in performance somewhere along the way. And, I don't see Wilder having it in him to produce a team like we had in 2018/19. So all we're left with, is just persisting in this league. Either until a new prospective owner/investor comes along, with deep enough pockets and connections to get us firing back up the league, or CW gets struck with a second wind.

Until such time occurs, I just want to see a team that shows respect for the shirt. That is willing to put in the raw effort that, to me, defines a team displaying the badge of Sheffield United. The bland, passing for passing's sake stuff, that has seeped into English football (thanks Pep, you twat), is just dreadful to watch. I'd much rather watch a team that is willing to put responsibility on the players and their bodies to impose their will on a match, rather than just hoping we get somewhere knocking back and forth across the back 4.

The Blades team I've most enjoyed watching in my lifetime, was the Warnock team of 02-03. We might not have been the prettiest team to watch, but we didn't half have a go.

The best demonstration of that, was probably our home defeat to Watford that season. Flew out of the blocks, took an early lead, white refereeing saw us go from 1 up and cruising, to a man down and 2-1 behind. But we absolutely hammered Watford that day.

Ever since that season, all I've ever wanted from us is to have a go. To play without fear, whether we're playing York City (as we did in the 02/03 League Cup 1st round), or the champions of England, as we did in that memorable FA Cup semi final. I want to see players run with the ball more, to take on the defenders more, to pressure the opposition more, even if the end result doesn't go our way. I haven't felt like that for a while, and it truly saddens me.

Realisti max outcome: I want us to be a club that consistently has ambitions of being in the premier league and realising them. And when we do realise them, we can compete. And by compete I don’t mean 19/20 style tear the league up by surprise for 2/3rds of the season, I just mean be able to hold our own and make a season of things. Not go winless in the first 17 games or ship 104 goals on the way to 16 points.

Winning the league cup one day would be something. Can we aim that high?

I've struggled a bit since 19/20 season. It's like when you played Championship Manager for hours but it crashed and you lost a huge chunk of the game.

I think the club is on a huge comedown from the initial rise under Wilder. We're all aware that it very likely won't feel better than that, even if we manage to be more successful. To go from 6 years in L1 to being 5th in the top flight, led by a Blade manager and captain, in just 3 and a half years is proper computer game stuff.

There's been great moments since that period but it's all felt very "after the lord's major show". The whole club feels tired at the moment, as if we've past the peak. Obviously United could finish higher than 9th in The Premier League in the future but I'm not sure it will feel as good as the early Wilder years. I think it's the reason the Wilder arguments are so passionate. Some fans want him here because he gave them their best ever period of being Blade and a win under Wilder feels better to them than a win under any other manager. Others think the dream is over and want to find somebody who can create new dreams for them. Wilder being here just reminds them of how good it used to be.

Huge comedown seems a touch strong for me. We’re mid table champ until we get some cash. It’ll be a bit attritional this year, but it’s a traditional time until we get more investment at the top.

I think we're really flat as a fanbase right now and it goes deeper than the current state of the club. We've gone from the club genuinely looking like it could be a force in the top flight to being back to a Championship also ran in 6 years. I think it's natural that the enthusiasm levels in the fanbase are low.

Things could be a lot worse and after the Adkins season, we would have killed to be in our current position. I just think everything we've experienced over the last 10 years has changed the mood of the club. A couple of dead end years is maybe what we need to appreciate the good times more once they come back around

Well, I would have said I know what it’s like to be mediocre club again like a West Brom, Stoke, Swansea or even Portsmouth. But the gut crunching reality is all these clubs have had good sustained spells in the Premier League. WBA 13, Stoke 10, Swansea 7+1cup, Pompey 7+ 1cup…Even Wigan won a bloody cup.
But what I’m trying to say in a long winded way is the Championship is littered with clubs who have tasted success and gave it a go. If these clubs are considered mediocre…What does that make United?

I think the change in mood has understandably changed for the younger end of the fanbase. Whose expectations outweigh their hopes. Which is pretty much what we’ve had for years. No doubt l’ll get the “but you old bastards settled” comments from those who weren’t there so couldn’t possibly know what it was like. Deliberately or inadvertently held back by the club itself created what our fan base was.

Unable to attend away games these days l miss that camaraderie tremendously and have respect for those who are always there so much. They carry the spirit because the big games are the same to them as Blackburn away Tuesday. If that goes that’s it. I doubt it will because that section of our fanbase aren’t social media gobshites looking for relevance. Similarly, the fans who turn up at BL for home games, to support the team through thick and thin rather than sit at home to revel in negativity at anything they can find. Still plenty of them who’ll be there when the doomsayers are forgotten.
