Burrows was far far better with Anel next to him. Souttar tied the whole defence together, everyone was better as a result.

352 has possibly run it's course but would be interesting to see:

Cooper
Tanganga Souttar Ahmedhodzic
Phillips
Seriki Arblaster/Peck Riedewald Burrows
O'Hare
Bamford
i like that line up and do think with the players weve now got going back to 352 is the answer

I've seen no end of talk of a 352 formation, Wilder's said continuously he wants to play with wingers.. we will not be going to a 352 again. His ego wont allow it. He tried it for 1 game last season against Bristol City away, to prove a point, and we lost so, in his head there's no way we will be playing that formation again.

Honestly I think 3-4-2-1 would work if we uncovered another diamond like Ndiaye

Just for laughs
Anel, tanganga,mcguiness
Seriki, Phillips, peck, Burrows
Ohare, Donovan
Bamford

Thing is Phillips will do the horrible work in front of back 3 and covering behind the wings backs

a proffesional football manager should be open to a few different formations he played with wingers yesterday and we were outnumbered in midfield and thats the problem with 442 and why birmingham had so much possesion the chris wilder of 2026 isnt half of the manager of 2016 was a massive fan of him then but hes had his best years here imo

No one plays 442 anymore for this reason. You are basically ceding midfield for an extra striker. When that extra striker is Cannon it’s even worse. You either need a big guy who can receive long balls under pressure (because you aren’t passing through midfield), or a 10 like O’Hare who can drop deep and add another body in midfield.

agree totally if was just too easy for birmingham to control the midfield area but wilder is so stubborn and stuck in his ways most managers would have seen we were being overun in midfield after 20 minutes and changed things by putting an extra body in there certainly 2nd half when it was obvious to everybody in the ground that o'hare stuck out on the left wasnt working

He did.

When, The 77th minute?

He made 4 like-for-like subs:

60'
Chong ↔️ Donovan
Campbell ↔️ Cannon

67'
Arblaster ↔️ Rothwell

Then on 77' we switched from
Another like-for-like - Burrows ↔️ McCallum

and One for Bamford. Only then did he switch from a 4-2-4 to a 4-2-3-1, allowing O'Hare to go more central.

Maybe Campbell on for Cannon was the plan to switch formation, but Campbell was more central

If we were going to play the old 352 formation i would fancy McCallum as a left sided overlappy Cb personally, Anel would be best suited to the right Seriki and Burrows either side and then romelle and Ohare rotate as the 10 bamford and campbell rotate up top would work with phillips playing as the norwood role peck and take your pick as your box to box midfielders

Souttar is best suited to 3 at the back i think in a 2 hes struggled since his injury

You,re right..this happens time after time ..he does fuck all to change it ..waits till at least 60 minutes..he's reactive not proactive..its very poor management.

He's also left completely bemused when the opposition make changes at half time.

A normal manager would asses the first half, spot weaknesses on both sides and address them. Wilder is an "as you were" non-tactician so is continually surprised by the opposition coming out and doing things differently and has no response to it. This is proved by us conceding 19 goals between 45 and 60, which was 7 more than any other period.
