Player Suggestion Souttar played and scored last night

This is a typical Wilder transfer target. He picks a player he wants and chases it like a dog after a ball, with tunnel vision. For me, it shows he hasn’t changed since his first reign in charge or learnt from his past mistakes.

Prince Abdullah suggested publicly that Wilder’s intense interest in Brewster drove the price up, and that a loan move might have been possible with more discreet negotiations. I believe he also criticised Wilder’s pursuit of Ramsdale in much the same way.

Talking about Souttar publicly, without any real media output to give the impression that we’re looking at alternatives, has obviously driven the price up dramatically.

10 million for a L1 player joining a now mid table championship team is too much. I really like big Haz, like the majority of us, but you could get an alternative and a good winger for the same price.

But then the counter to that (while I very much agree with the comments about how Wilder negotiates!) Is that there are low end championship players (Galbraith, Ashley Phillips) or high-end L1 players (Tolaj, Ballard) going for a similar price - could this just be where football is at right now?

If Leicester had offered Souttar + £5m for Brooks and Hamer, would people have been happy?

Fun thought experiment! But personally no, not at all. Souttar for Hamer straight up, ok. But losing two starters for one (even with the kicker) coming off bad injuries isn't one I'd be happy with.

I also feel - although apparently United don't agree with me - it's probably easier to find a centreback than a creative passer / dribbler / scorer? Or at least look at it this way: Souttar might stop us conceding ~5 goals vs playing someone crapper there, but it'll be much much harder to offset Hamer and Brooks' goals and assists.

I also think we are vastly underestimating how much attention Hamer drew from opposition teams, and how much Brooks started to draw towards the end of last season.

Donavan may well be a good signing but he'd have a much better chance of showing it with an opposition team having shaded their defence towards Hamer. Now, teams will start off defending straight up as I'm not sure there's really anyone in the squad who'd warrant that extra planning

There definitely seems to be a sudden big jump in championship transfer fees for sure. I'm genuinely surprised how most clubs can actually afford it (im guessing they can't long term). I'd say top-tier or high-demand CB's (young high potential or players with PL or promotion experience) cost roughly between 5-8m?

Leicester can sit tight knowing we’ll just keep increasing the bids. My source initially stated £3m before the World Cup and that’s steadily risen to a whopping £10m.

At this point my concern is we have no other plan, and seemingly no limit to what we’ll bid.

If this goes ahead we’re down £2m on Brooks already, money which we could accept wouldn’t be invested in a creative replacement due to needing to fund the shortfall. That’s going on Souttar, and then some, potentially.

Has the narrative changed? Are we now swimming in cash?

We need to go back and say final offer and be prepared to walk away. Unfortunately it seems like we have no plan B.

Post Xmas yes, after Souttar was injured.

Before Xmas though we were short of options up front. Solid at the back but not scoring many.
