Here's what we should do

Sign Woolfenden now, loan or permanent

Tell Leicester our top bid is 6m rising to 8m and leave it in until deadline day

If it's accepted, sign him

If it's not, bring in a CB on loan and probably go with Woolfenden as first choice

Be prepared to go without. The above alternative is no disaster

We need 2 CBs anyway. Sign the other one now, before Souttar, not after. Stronger negotiating position, less desperation - just by doing what we need to do anyway

Anybody thinking we maybe bidding over the odds, go back and watch his performances at the world cup. Yes I keep hearing and seeing the arguments about his injury , but that's in the past. Playing at the world cup in heat and that intensity. Says to me he is in prime fitness and condition. Worth every penny if we got him. 👌

If wrexham fail getting this defender from norway ,they'il be in for soutter i would a thought.

And your know that as a fact ,or just a doom and gloom opinion. Which I respect
I mean, doom and gloom doesn’t come into it. Here’s one, you get offered 20K a week to play for a club, then another offers you 30K a week in the same league.. which one are you picking?

If that's what Leicester are hoping , there's no point us bidding at this stage.
Once Wrexham have their man , we're in a better position to bid.
Go and get the other CB we need NOW , and as posted above , take our desperation out of the negotiation.
Nothing to lose for us.
If Wrexham decide they want Souttar , they're too strong a bidder for us to beat.
And then we'll have no one.
We are daft to offer the asking price at this stage.
Wait till Wrexham are out of the running and Leicester start worrying.
SUFC need a course in negotiation.
If Leicester accept our £10m now , we probably pay £4m more than we needed to.

There might not be another CH as tall or as aerially dominant, but there are many more options out there good enough and notably cheaper.

Who else is bidding with us at the current supposed price?
Probably nobody but unlike us with Hamer it seems Leicester arent shitting their pants about not selling him so are playing hard ball as they know we have no plan B

I mean. Unless you’re a complete tit you’d go to the better offer. I think that’ll be the opinion of most people but hey ho.

Put the original offer back on the table, withdraw any increased offers, and go and sign another centre half. Let Leicester stew for a bit. They still desperately need money ( i was reading about their finances the other day and they have already spent the money they borrowed in advance of their last parachute payment), so give them a take it or leave it offer, and take the desperation out of it by switching targets. Whilst a good player, Harry Souttar is not the only centre half that we can try to sign.

Difference being! Hamer was in his last year and had set his heart on returning to Cov.
If Martin is holding Soutter against his wishes it won't last and he knows it.
Surprised that Leic have given him licence to orchestrate transfers.

Imagine saying that 3 or 4 years ago
I know - football world's gone mad.
Bournemouth & Brentford from lower leagues , soon to be joined by Wrexham in the top flight.
Big crowds & catchment areas , tradition & history worth very little (apart from the global clubs).
Drift from post-industrial North , to wealthy South-East is irrevocable in English football now dominated by international players , their agents & cold hard cash.
In the first half of my 60 years following dem Blades , all we talked about was the football & the players (who you could name at any club coz they barely ever moved).
In the second half , it's drifted into noise about club owners , finances , players contracts & wages.
Taking over from the actual football as a topic of conversation.
I hate it.
But there's no avoiding it.
The media are totally seduced by it.
And with the internet on everyone's phone , it is the media which controls what you think about.
Not wishing to sound too Orwellian , but the vidiscreen (on your phone , not the wall of Winston's flat) dictates far too large a proportion of your life and what ought to be your "free will".
I try not to think of the future of society - it's very ugly.
And the coming generations have no reference point from which to evaluate the quality of their existence.
History is wiped out.
Billionaire businesses are in charge.
Not even governments can stop the vested interests.
I think that's why so many Blades say that if we ever leave the Lane , that's the end of their involvement.

Says a Wednesday fan

When their messiah and best player is a 37 year old midfielder, Who’s been washed for the last 6 years, Goes missing in big games, Never tracks back to defend, Absolutely useless at Millwall and is hated by Millwall fans cos of his lack of effort, I think I’d pipe down if I were him 🤣🤣
