Surely people understand why there is some doubt with these signings? It's not like people are just saying "shit" about players they don't know. Phillips played for us last season and it was a disaster whilst Souttar has played 2 league games since he got injured against Burnley 2 years ago.

They could both turn out to be inspired signings just like Didzy was. There's definitely a world where other clubs are looking at us and wondering how they let us pick up 2 Premier League class players so easily. There's also definitely a world where they play 10 games between them. These signings are objectively risks but they are ones where the best‑case scenario isn’t just good, it’s genuinely transformative.

Yeah I agree. On the surface, it's a ridiculously high fee to pay for someone who has barely played in 2 seasons. It's no surprise we're the only ones linked with him. I think if we got the Souttar of 2024 though, and he stayed fit, we'd probably say it was worth it?

I have major doubts over both signings but I can see why others would be excited if we can keep them fit. We've been here before with so many players though that it's obvious why there is so much concern

If the target is promotion, which paying fees like this would suggest it is, where is the long term thinking? There is no resale value, he’s good at this level but is in no way close to being premier league level, so what’s the long term plan? Get up and then come straight back down again with Souttar spending a lot of time on the treatment table and us flattering to deceive again.

It’s obvious he was our number one target but when Leicester played hardball we should have done what all smartly run clubs do and say he’s not worth that and move on to other targets. We haven’t done that because our ‘strategy’ is to have our top targets and not deviate from them until we end up paying way over the odds, or until we get them a year or two later when they are already on the downhill. Not saying Souttar is on the downhill, but we’re certainly hugely guilty of overpaying for what is essentially a good head it, kick it, centre back.

I actually like McGuiness.more than most. But he's not as good as Souttar. It's whether Souttar is worth blowing ten million I guess. I just hope there's money for a winged still. No doubt on loan.

Also worth noting that from 2022 to 2024 he was largely fit but just not fancied by the Leicester manager, hence their openness to loan him to us for a season.

What makes you think you would get Bindon for significantly less??

Souttar on the overhand is in his peak, so there’s no way he’ll be worth anything close to 10m again. We need to accept our position as a selling club and make smart recruitment of younger players when dropping big fees.

It’s not like signing younger players isn’t a risk either though. Any player you buy for a significant fee carry’s some sort of risk. What if the younger player gets a bad injury or doesn’t improve as expected, you aren’t seeing a return on your investment then either.

At the moment we need a ready made player to come in and improve the defence and Souttar does that. I pretty sure people behind the scenes at the club will have considered all factors. They aren’t going to spend money we can’t afford.

I mean it’s possible but even right now 6-8 million would still be a relatively high amount and if he played 3 years in championship their won’t be any gurantee he gets sold for a profit from that

I’m not disagreeing about the approach for going forward but I’m not sure how easy it is paying out 6 million all the time on young guys, maybe we need to get more types like Baptiste and commit to playing them but even then that has big risks also

We bought young players based on a poker players recommendation, who happened to have investments in the clubs tje players played for
