18 year old centremid getting significant minutes for Birmingham this season and the focus of a tug of war between England and Wales for who he’ll represent. Could be one to target if we do well this season and Birmingham struggle.

Wonder if we might make an offer... Say £1M (in instalments paid over five years) and Shackleton in exchange?

Great signing

Now let's take Doyle off them - at least if Peck leaves

I never really got the fuss with Tommy Doyle and his careers gone the way I thought it might. With Riedewald, Phillips and Peck in there we don't need another midfielder that can't really carry the ball or attack the box through the middle.

If there was solid interest in peck at the 15m mark. I'd have been all over replacing him with james and putting the extra cash towards a winger/forrad

I thought it might happen but doesn't look like the interest in Peck is serious and the competition for James is too high.

I did think if we were able to bring in enough in from sales, James should be the signing we target - not necessarily, that he would have chosen us over other options. We would have looked far better off also with Tommy Doyle in place of one of Reideweld, Phillips or Rothwell. But would not seem viable now. I thought with Doyle in the squad, he is an alternative if Arblaster does not kick on....and if Arblaster did get back to his best and we sold him at the end of the season, the replacement would be in-house. A player you would get 3-4 good seasons out of at this level.

We are, or should be, trying to build a squad with the aim of not having 3-4 seasons at this level. If we are buying young players they should have the potential to develop into a future PL player. Tommy Doyle isn’t one of those.
We don’t buy players under 30

That was because Rothwell was awful. Every time he got the ball he refused to pass to Peck. We should be starting with Jairo rather than Rothwell.
Having been forced to watch the game on tv rather than in the emotion of Bramall Lane I’ve got to completely disagree.
Peck and Rothwell were excellent… Peck was a driving force throughout the game, winning his battles and picking the right moments to either calm things down or look for a forward pass.
Rothwell was constantly available as the link man between our lines. He switched the play well and was great off the ball… giving players an option for a pass.
Overall I thought we looked very solid in midfield and at the back.
What was glaringly missing was ball retention and movement at the top of the pitch. Bamford had a very poor game by his standards but I’m certain he will improve. Cannon played as he has in every other game for us. I’m equally certain he can’t improve.
Callum O Hare was as industrious as ever but had one of his poorer games with the ball at his feet.
For me, Peck and Rothwell are a very promising duo in the middle.

Rothwell did that in patches
For a lot of the game he was invisible and he certainly didn’t press or harry as much as Peck did.

Yet again the team got into some decent positions on the flanks only to curb the momentum and check back or select the wrong pass (Seriki and Donovan hardly beat the first man when overlapping) and the attack fizzled out.

Chong’s key interaction was that run to cover Lisa, who still managed to get a shot away and bring a good save from Cooper.

Biggest positive for me was seeing a confident and fit Cooper between the sticks, again. Never had that last season.

In my view Rothwell only played in patches. That is reflected in his stats, where he gave 17 passes for the 70min he was on the pitch. 2 of those passes messed up promising breaks. Rothwell tends to hide from the ball.

Peck was more industrious and while no way effective going forward he was his usual agressive self when defending. But with a midfield of O'Hare Peck Rothwell and Donovan we were too light weight and Santos for them bossed the gzme.

Fantastic player, bags of potential, great deal for Wolves. Now, way out of our league and likely for some time yet.

The best SUFC can do is being located close to J.E. James.
