Player Suggestion Souttar played and scored last night

Choudhury played far too deep when he played in midfield for us. Almost like another CB at times.
That is wilders tactic. JR was doing it this pre season also. They drop between cbs for the full backs to get high up pitch.

It doesnt work and hasnt worked since he brought it in/back but he persist in trying it.

Doesnt work beacuse. 1 we dont have a player like norwood or coutts to be able to either pick a long diagonal pass or to be able to keep the ball moving forward. We also tend to then beacuse of this we the have 1 midfielder surrounded by 3 or 4 opposition players and is ineffective, with ohare being further forward and not dropping deep to support, we then become disjointed & hence the side to side backwards slow football (also doesnt help with players not coming into space and showing and moving off).

From the snippets I’ve seen against Northampton today on sky sports news, I think Soutts has completely checked out at Leicester like seems as if he doesn’t wanna be there

Last time I saw him it was for Australia against the US and he was awful. He definitely hadn't checked out then - maybe he's just bad now?

How we do know he will still want to come here ?

Especially after losing two of our best assets in Brooks and Hamer .

We could contemplate what it was all like between 2010 and 2016

Nice bit of deflection again there Ken.

I mean how far back should we go? Back to the 80's when we dropped to the 4th tier?

It's a fact that we've spent 3 of the last 6 years in the PL and have fuck all to show for it. That's genuinely not up for dispute.

I hold pretty much the entire management structure of the club accountable for that including Wilder even if you don't.

It blows my mind that anyone at the club would want to sell hamer and spend the only money we have on souttar. If we spend money, there has to be sell on potential
Promotion with us is probably Wilder’s last chance to manage again in the PL. So this season will have a laser like focus on the short term and a gamble on getting up through the playoffs. There won’t be any long term planning in terms of style or personnel.

I was all for the HS signing. But then i naively thought we could have got him for maybe £5-6m (all in). Any more, then i think its too rich for us for a player who has only just come back from a serious injury. If Leicester are asking for £9m plus then can we please forget this one and move onto other targets. Hes good, but not that good. There are other decent centre halves out there. Mind you, that relies on our scouting team being able to identify them... dont hold your breath.

We seem to be in a confused position where we aren't going to throw any real money at it but we're solely looking at this season and not the future. Often when teams run out of parachute money, they'll sell their big earners and buy younger players in the hope they can sell them on at a later date. We seem to be losing big earners and looking to replace them with players that have zero resale value. It might work out and clubs who have tried to do it the other way have often failed so maybe there is no right way to do it, but it seems quite a big risk. Especially given none of the current first team youngsters have signed a new contract.

Just saw him play a ball straight to the Northampton striker early in the game..should have scored.
I like him,but not that bothered if we move on elsewhere.

My gut feeling is this is exactly where we are. There has been no great change this summer (though I thought we were led to believe there would be) and Wilder knows his position with fans. He’s not going to play beautiful football with this team, so in his mind needs to get the results. I don’t expect it to be pretty and caveat it with my usual point that I (like pretty much everyone on here) am not inside Wilders head. Hope I’m wrong hence my previous post suggesting we wait until the end of the window before beginning to form opinions. Souttar should be putting in the effort for Leicester- it’s not exactly the attitude I like to see and I do wonder whether we should just move on, however impressed I was by him before his injury.

Funny, I always thought it was a given that players who didn't want to be at the club werent worth putting in the team because their attitude always would be bad!

I can't beleave Soutter played that pass to give Northampton a rare chance of a goal..It was a howler and every player drops a bollock now and then ! That's football.!
