I know it's National League level (& the League 1 goals from Barry didn't translate) but AA looked electric at Wembley yesterday vs Dale.

Pacy, direct left sided attacker. Released by Millwall 12 months ago. 15 goals this season & was best player on the pitch by a distance.

Worth a punt?

I was thinking this when watching. He looks a class above.

It is a big jump up to championship but surely he is a better option than the AI nonsense we’ve signed.

Remember the last player we got from Boreham Wood? #29

It's not a mad shout. Boreham Wood struggle because they're wedged in between some of the best academies in the country, any player that gets through the net and plays first team football for BW is probably worth a punt as a cheap option.

He absolutely teared up the national league this season, definitely worth a punt imo, looks like a great player and also would be a cheap option, see what happens, he will probably end up at Peterborough or something.

Definitely not against good value "punts" like this. He's pretty young. Not sure if he's good enough, but you often don't make a loss if these don't work out, because you can sell to League 1.

We do already have Buyabu, who also had a good season in the same league. Think they play on opposite flanks mind you.

Buyabu has been playing as a left wing back/winger for FGR. 36 Appearances 7 goals and 5 assists a decent return. Worth bringing into the squad.

I'd like to see him in and around the squad for 6 months. Saw him once this season in the flesh and he was the best player on the park. He was playing right-wing or very attacking right midfield.

You look at sides like York and Rochdale who were so far ahead of their rivals that there must be some who are playing at a level way beneath their capabilities and are capable of hitting a much higher ceiling given the chance.

We can't go and go signing lower league players willy nilly (not like last summer) but doing some proper diligence and see who could be worth a look since we don't seem to do a great job in the foreign market.

The likes of Bowen, Ndiaye and Vardy coming from that level to being top Premier League players aren't exactly ten a penny but it can be done and its profitable if it's done early enough.

He plays either attacking midfield or left wing. Sound familiar?

In a colossal 54 games played last season, he managed 27 goals and assists (17G+10A).

This is exactly the sort of player we should be looking at as a long term replacement for Hamer. He’s only 23 in April too.

Exactly the sort of signing we seem to have lost sight of. I wonder what Jamie Hoyland and Mike Allen think? Do they know the lad. Do they look at a guy who puts numbers on the board I.e. a contribution ever 180 mins or do they just not bother to look? We seem to be stats driven, how do you ignore such a contribution to not be in the conversation?

Was really impressed at the couple of times I watched him last season. I do think he could make the step up. But obviously I am not a scout at the club and I like the idea a few others feel the same about him.

Agree with the sentiments in this thread I can’t imagine they want much more than a million for him maybe 1.5 ish surely. At that price he’s a punt worth taking even if he’s just a big standard championship level player we’d make money on him were we to then sell him in future and hopefully he could be better than that.

I hope last summer doesn’t mean we’re done with punts on players with potential just hopefully we’ve learned our lesson and start chasing much more sensible punts like this

I'd love for us to take punts on these kind of players, unfortunately the majority of our incomings these days are either frees, loans, or unwanted players.
If it doesn't work out, we'd probably still recoup some value.

We instead waste millions on players who effectively will never increase in value - Cannon, McGuiness, Chong.

I can see this lad going somewhere and then moving on swiftly for profit.

The thing is, regular football people like ourselves know that these players exist, but our scouting infrastucture just seems far too limited.
Whether that's instructions from the manager or incompetence from Hoyland and Allen, who knows.

That's why we need a change and move on, stuck in the past

He's definitely gonna play higher in the Leagues... based on nothing more than those 49s.
Looks a right player.

Would struggle with better standard defenders, but pace is pace. He can grow technically through better coaching etc.
If only coaching was part of our manager's remit... 🙄
