Not an ode to Richie McCaw or an “other sports” thread… just a genuine query.

Can’t think of another time in last 25 odd years we’ve ever had an all black defence. With Page, Morgan, Murphy, Macguire, Jags, etc. then it is never universal.

Perhaps during darkness league one days with Noseworthy / Stewart / others?? Can’t think.

I was conscious of that… but decided it would annoy me if not asked. They could be all purple or green for all I care, so long as anyone wears shirt with pride and works for it.

Cue someone saying "why does it matter?"

Answer: it doesn't. Just close-season Blades trivia.
Looks like you were right… 6 posts in and we have our numpty.

Just asked a simple question and next I’m Combat 18 and shouldn’t observe anything genuinely.

To be more accurate, I can’t in 25 years think of more than 2 or 3 Black Centre Halfs for the blades. As such, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the first time ever.

Feels like you got the reaction you were looking for

Are you actually mental?

I asked a legitimate question as I couldn’t recall. Most I can get to is 2 out of 4, even then Hill and Stewart tender to alternate. LJF was fab as a back but didn’t play central.

Thought others may have some insight. Don’t be a pilchard! Ffs… this has zero to do with provocation, race, discrimination, etc.

It was instead an ob-ser-va-tion.

Next we have people saying “why don’t Nigerian team have white defenders?” - Answer: because they are a national team representing a nation with fairly low levels of migration and diversity. How is this in any way equivalent to a professional league team in a national league with traditionally high levels of migration, ethnic representation, and diversity.

If you don’t know the answer, that’s OK… feel free not to comment BUT to try and twist a simple is very sad and quite unwelcome.

PS. My daughter is mixed race, so that might improve your insights on my motivations. Not that it has any bearing or relevance to my legitimate observation.

Be honest with you I didn't even notice it think anything of it
Just four lads in bladeshirts

Obviously, that’s why he kept giving Brookes Chinese burns until he tore up his own contract in despair and drove all night (at 125mph with Seriki) to find support from Ben Slimane, who had also suffered for many years.

I’m glad that game is over is all I can say… I can put the pitchfork and hood back in the cupboard, safe in the knowledge we ended the game with Mark McGuiness (now there’s a proper name) shoring up the defences.

We had Max Lowe, Ethan Ampadu, Kean Bryan and Jayden Bogle on the books in 2020-21, all made 15 or more appearances, no idea if they were all on the pitch together (though I suspect not as Egan and Basham played 35 games each). Seriki also made one league appearance.

As an aside, I thought our starting back line actually has a huge amount of potential.

I know we played Rotherham and they didn't have a huge amount to do but:

Seriki looked like has has done for a while, a good attacking right back.

McCallum seems to have recovered fully from his injury and I think has nailed down the LB position.

Baptiste made some good passes and carried the ball a bit. I really liked how quickly he moved the ball. Good pace behind the passes

Tanganga... the weak link?!

I see nothing racist in Sydney Blade's post/thread. If Sheffield United can recognise the milestone of the club's first black player with a tribute on the outer wall of the stadium, why can't Sydney Blade recognise the milestone of the club's first all black defence with a thread on here? At no point has Sydney Blade said anything racist or derogatory in his post - he's simply asking the question: 'Is this the milestone that I think it is?'

For those who don't go on John Street, and haven't seen the tribute:

I think it's a beautiful poem.
