Can't comment from an Argentinian perspective too much but I find this a bit of an odd way to celebrate.

Enjoy your victory obviously, even though I've never been fond of Argentinian tactics as long as I can remember.

However, the Falklands aren't yours, the inhabitants don't want it to be, and your attempt to take them back ended up in an embarrassing military defeat that even the super powers didn't believe could be so easy.

I'm genuinely surprised that Starmer hasn't paid the argies millions of pounds of taxpayer's money to take them back. Still, time yet though, once Sue Perkins gets his feet under the table.

I genuinely think we need a Pep to take the reigns. A complete change in mindset and tactics. I'm not sure how well it translates to international football with limited coaching time but we can't keep trying to defend leads, squeeze out tight wins and play % football.

Hard to take that we surrendered that game to those snidey shithouses after taking a deserved lead. Taking Gordon off was a huge mistake we should have taken Kane off and put more pace on Watkins or Rashford. Their two centre backs on yellow cards, and we don't put any pressure on them, we just retreat and let them play in our half for the last 30 mins. Even the worst manager in modern times Wayne Rooney called it, most fans could see what was going to happen. Us United fans have seen the same tactics for a few years now, it might get you 92 pts, it might get you results against the average teams but at the end of the day when you play this way against top teams you are found out. Seen some people say we are only a small country so don't have the talent pool of other nations which is utter rubbish, Argentina has a population of only 46million let that sink in, then think about the likes of Croatia or Belgium. Something is wrong with football in England and has been for years maybe the Premier League is just a training ground for other nations' talent whilst our talent struggles to break through and get game time. Think Italy who used to have the top league in the world where have they been for the last few tournaments.

We like to think we're a footballing nation of warriors, but in reality we've got imposter syndrome. Maybe that comes from the very top and that informs managerial choices too.

I see that the FA have already come out and publicly backed Tuchel.

His squad selection was bonkers and we've had as many bad performances under him as we've had good. His win percentage will look great (we had a very easy draw in qualifying) but I don't think we'd have been any worse off if we'd have appointed Lee Carsley. We'd have probably saved some money too.

The fact hes told his players to sit back as soon as we scored from 58th min or so was terribly nieve tactically and a shocking decision. What made it worse is he just stood there and watched it happen, we could all see what was coming but no, he doubled down and brought on more defenders, pathetic management.

That’s the thing for me. Sometimes, the ultra-low block is the right percentage game to play. It’s never 100% safe, but sometimes it’s just bad luck or a silly one-off lapse. Even if a team concedes, it doesn’t always mean that it was the wrong plan.

However, last night…

It was SO obvious that the tactic wasn’t working. Argentina had countless chances. Hit the post twice, had two headers saved well, a couple of other narrow misses. They had barely anything at all before our tactical change and then suddenly it was threat after threat. If anything, it’s a wonder that it only finished 2-1. Argentina could have scored five during that last half an hour.

So the whole ‘no regrets’ thing from Tuchel is nonsense. I might agree with him if we’d mostly kept them at bay but then conceded from a freak deflection and lost on penalties. But how he didn’t see what was happening is mind boggling.

Exactly what I’ve been thinking this morning, I would include other play off finals too, Palace in 1997 and Huddersfield in 2012, I really thought we would win each time.

This is a pattern we've seen all too often, Italy and Spain in Euros finals spring to mind. Contrast that with how Argentina played when they went two one up, they went for the jugular to try and get a third.

Wharton, Lewis-Skelly, Palmer, Hall. Trent Alexander-Arnold has limitations, but I'd prefer him as a right back option over Quansah or Chalobah, who aren't actually right backs. Presumably he selected Jordan Henderson for the bants and Ivan Toney just in case it went to penalties because he's good at those.

The contrast was huge at 2-1, they were still pressing high and we struggled to get the ball anywhere near their box.

Why we didn’t keep a higher press at 1-0 I have no idea. Ok, maybe try and hang on for last 10 minutes, but it’s crazy to think Tuchel believed our defence could defend a one goal lead for 35 minutes plus stoppage time.

Was not that disappointed when I woke up this morning. The Sunderland play off final legitimately would randomly spring up in my head for nearly a year in a PTSD type way this? Meh.

It was disappointing but nothing like the disappointment I felt after the last play off final.

Mine is actually worse.

England winning a WC is the biggest sporting triumph i could witness realistically. United aren't going to win a PL or major cup competition. Winning the Champ PO final is our limit and we continually find ways to blow it.

I dont believe in curses or failures of the past affecting teams years down the line. I do, however, have a deeply embedded gut feeling that it's for some reason simply not to be.

Although I keep getting drawn back in, deep down I don't believe I'll see United win at Wembley or England win the WC (probably not even the Euros) in my lifetime.

I disagree with that. By my reckoning there were only three players in the England Squad who've not won a major trophy at club level (Pickford, Anderson and Toney), either domestic or European. I may have missed some, so i'll happily be corrected on that.

There is no way the likes of Stones, Kane, Bellingham, Rice, Watkins or even Djed Spence don't have a winning mentality, when they've picked up silverware in the way they have done at club level.

I don't think that England crumbled under the pressure last night either, they didn't hide, they stood up to Argentina until the death. Yes mistakes were made tactically, with changes, with fitness and of course ability. There was a lack of conviction to go and finish the job with a 2nd or 3rd, but I'd dispute that the mentality was at fault.

This group is probably the best group of players we've had who were mentally prepared when we look back at previous squads and campaigns where we've failed.
