A few facts.

It could be fact number 8 that is missing:-

We always sell our best players and replace them with players who aren't as good. Possibly.

Don't understand the word "possibly" hanging around at the end there.

The rest of it pretty much nails it. Whatever the reason we sell (we need the cash, we can't stand in a players way, pesky's, manager fallouts, et al) and however good the business looks at that particular time (and christ knows some would say we're the kings of business on that score), it always comes down to poor recruitment following a "big sale".

I've said it times many but it never stops being true. You sell good players and replace them with poor players you end up with a poor team and that team will, eventually, find its level.

Without being picky and pedantic, what i stated in the orignal post, there is a lot you can't really argue with. With the 2 World Cup players i forgot that Kyle Walker missed the World Cup, but i counted Jagielka as he came through the ranks at Bramall Lane.

What sticks in my craw, is the fact that we have got the infrastructure in place to be an established top flight club, we have the support base to draw on, we have got enough quality players coming through the ranks, and in terms of status and stature we should not be in League 1. Yet 2 games in to the season we are having the same old post morten,

I'm not directing my blame at any particular individual at this point in time, but i'm sick of being in this Division, sick of all the same old tired excuses, sick of the disappointment. I knew we had a tough start to the season, but i expect us to lose again tomorrow at Peterborough, and be anchored to the bottom of the division with no points after 3 games. Cracking stuff from an 'ambitious' club!

I agree, but I don't think it would be a "big contract": the stigma of a rape conviction and two and a half years away from football. He will be doing well if he gets the average third division wage.

I think he'll be among the top earners in the league still. It may be a shorter length in contract with lots of payments dependent on appearances, goals etc, but I imagine there'll be a queue of clubs willing to sign him as soon as he straps on the tag. Lee Hughes, Marlon King and various others have made shit loads of money with (arguably) worse reputations than Ched.

Look at Nile Ranger; a stream of convictions and is currently awaiting his another charge to come to court where he clearly beat up a woman. Despite all this he still finds himself in the division above ours - and this is a player who isn't half of what Evans was when he was sent to prison.

If we want Evans, then the only reason he'll sign for us is due to some sense of loyalty. Otherwise, clubs the like of Blackpool will be queuing up for him... stigma or no.

Edit: you can all thank me for turning this into another Ched Thread.

When Hughes was released he signed for third division Oldham at a 1/10 of his previous salary with WBA. His earning power will have been reduced dramatically with a rape conviction and 2.5 years in jail. I don't think anyone in the top 2 divisions would touch him.

That may not matter to the Oystons at Blackpool...

I actually believe football has changed quite a bit in the 7 years since Hughes was released.

Well, we will see, Given that Evans has only ever performed in one season in the 3rd tier, I can't see a top two tier club taking him on with the bagagge he will come with and him not having played fo 2.5 years. Hence his bargaining power will be that much less.

What a delightful quote WalthamstowBlade,I think I have heard/read it before, was it Shakespeare perhaps,Keats maybe?Or maybe one of Wordsworths' later works ?
Fuckin great !!!!! haha
:D

+1 for the Walthamstow line...and no Joeydee, you're wrong, it was Eric Cantona...

"There has to be a reason a club our size seems to be short of cash despite investing so little on players. I wonder if the running costs of the academy aren't strangling us."

I thought the academy was just about self financing (via the hiring out of its facilities). I'd even make the point that its probably been propping up the rest of the club for a number of years, given the fees received for players that have come through the academy doors.

That said, didn't McCabe write off all the debts when the Prince came on board last season, so there shouldn't be any excuse from the club for not bringing in decent players.

Because internally within the club it's probably not going to be his decision, but to the outside world (due to ignorance of people in general about the inner workings of football) it will appear that it is.

I find it difficult to believe that Clough, being the character he is, would accept a player into his squad if he didn't believe that player could contribute in a positive manner both on and off the pitch. ( Whoever they are )
On that basis I trust NC's judgement regarding young Chedwyn.

I've got it. We have a board and chairman who think that football does not come first. Otherwise why woould they continually sell our best players. The game changing investment is not going to happen. Forget it. Look at the turgid bunch of nobodies we have signed this summer and look at the first two performances. A season of mediocrity beckons.

1. Been looking through the paper today at attendances, and i counted about 8 games where i could say we wouldn't get as many in the ground for the same fixture had it been us at home in the same situation, against the same opposition as the home team.

2. We have the biggest ground outside the top division, considerably so with our capacity approximately 7,500 more than the next ground, Valley Parade

3. We have a ground with facilities that are Premiership standard, and better than most in the Championship

4. We are debt free, and have millions of pounds of investment available in the club

5. There have been 8 or 9 players who have played in the Premiership this weekend who have at one point or another been Sheffield United players

6. 2 of the England 2014 World Cup squad came through the Sheffield United Academy

7. We have a training facility and academy that is amongst the best in the country

So why are we currently 22nd in League 1?

All it proves is we flog our best talent and our fans still show up every week to watch them disappear.

Its took you all these years to realise that:rolleyes:

All them years McCabe kept saying we need these attendances,we need them attendances otherwise were in shit creek.Well guess what,we got the attendances and some.

We always stick to our side of the bargain, can he honestly say he sticks to his.

Tell yer summat else that youth with the Italian sounding name will be gone too come January too.

Might be before christmas because he can't even get an appearance in a league cup tie.Cloughy quite clearly isn't going to give the kid a chance, its a shame really as he can't be any worse than whats on show atm.

I can see him doing well for someone else if he leaves.

Also knowing us we would probably let him go to another League 1 club as well.

Right. We were told that this would be the start our climb up the divisions with the goal of reaching the Premier league. Buying lumbering strikers on cheap deals from Livingston doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. And NC confirmed the strategy shift when he stressed the importance of bringing through the youngsters. The Prince has gone and the money with him.

Is he in hiding with Borat?

Listening to 'Wednesday Heaven' and some poor, delusional asked (in her best Southey Green accent) 'What's 'appenin wi t'taaake-over?) I think the clue was in a couple of calls last night. ''Ow cum wi caaan't get Wendy shirts from t'club shop till September?' Ermm. Because it's proving difficult to remove the 'Land of Fire' shite off them?

BTL will know.

borat is in Azerbaijan, where due to declaring war on their neighbour all bank accounts are frozen , oh dear

in related news on facts , next monday the 25th will be the 6 month anniversary of swfc ,s last home league win which was on march 25th a goal by best in injury time
funny how they dont shout about that fact

they have found some consistency

We all need to chill.

3 games and 3 points, if we had drawn the games 0-0 would we all be rubbing our hands with glee thinking the defence was shit hot and our loan striker when he appears will shoot us to 100 points.

Cloughie will sort it.
