If there's a chance you believe you van make him into a PL starter, it's a good investment. If you think he's just a good Championship player, I think £5m would be better spent on a brighter prospect.

Any fee that size has to be for a player you believe will go up in value
I dont see him depreciation at all.
Not only that but I think he would stop us needing a forward as well.
I think unless we absolutely bomb as a team this year we'll at least get our money back on him. Not in general, not because he's young (ish) and English, but because I think he's good enough.
I'd happily lose Peck if it means signing him and keeping Gus.

Assuming he's not done enough to be a PL signing , he's a year older, no longer coming from the PL to the Championship and a year into his deal, he'll need to have had an excellent season to just hold his value.

I think you need to be confident you can make him a proposition to PL teams to spend that much.

That was Wilders plan as described in The Star article
'Get a skilful winger on either side and that allows Gus to play more centrally.
He also feels we need 2 centre backs'

No, I get that, and its a good way of looking at it (in a business sense).
That said, at 23 I'd have him over McAtee, and he cost a few bob.

It's a shame that the PL premium for players who are nowhere near the first team squad of bigger clubs is so high.

I think there should be limits on how many times you can loan a player out or exclude them from your 1st team squad before they can move for just the same compensation smaller clubs get when they steal youth from smaller clubs

I don’t see not going for Dobbin as a barometer for all the negativity that’s on the forum. Obviously the ownership issue with the Prince is adding to the bad feelings but by the sound of that it is just a bit of sabre rattling between business men. It will sort itself out before too long. As for Dobbin I don’t think anyone really had him down as a must have at the end of last season so why the vitriol now🤷‍♂️

Seeing as this seems to be Dobboff, who do you reckon are the others on our "long list of left wing targets"?

Loan fee the issue I think, Villa want loads of wonga. Fair play to them, I think it’s more of a principal thing rather than a can’t afford thing.

Will cost a fee won’t he ??
Yes,have to use some money from Brooks,if they won't even shell out at least some of that,we are in a poor state.
As for Dobbin,if we were in for him seriously,it would seem a bit of a blunder if we got our hopes up internally at least without even knowing Villa were not interested in loaning him

We say this (almost) every time we sell a player - the funds need to be re-invested etc. They rarely are done at this club, most of the time it ends up plugging a financial hole and I expect most of the Brooks fee will do exactly that too. We might sign a Cleary type for a million or so, then the rest we'll not see again. Maybe another loan signing.

Just the way it is, but it's the reason I'm always hesitant when people pipe on about raising funds to buy 2 or 3 more players. It inevitably won't pan out that way.

Get Cameron Archer back.

Bladey bladey
Surprised Boro haven’t had a nibble. He settled well there, didnt he?

As for BBD, I can see us monitoring but at this stage we’d probably look for a higher caliber player on loan I’d imagine.
