Can't see the point in this - we seem to be signing lots of mediocre players! Is there a strategy here?

FFS anyone who loses their place to Jordan Stewart needs to take up a different sport/job

Yes, the strategy is to bring in lots of mediocre players.....

Seriously, it's exactly the opposite of what was needed. We should have signed 3 or 4 decent quality players. - instead we have signed loads of very average ones - most of them free transfers.

We were supposed to be using the Harry money to improve the team. Not to provide cover what we already had.
So we will buy players who are not available for a good price and may not even make a difference. How longs Harry been gone? 10 days - 2 weeks? If the players are not available to buy then we can't buy them not his fault is it. Not going to spend a million on left back cover when we already have one of the best left backs in the league.

Did you watch the Bristol game ?

Not a great one really, I'm not sure but I think he's had a few reds in his time

Why do we need cover. We don't have any injuries so cover signings can wait. Now there's a thought! Then maybe we can wait for better signings

Spoke to a mate at work today who is a regular at the County Ground (poor bastard).

His view was that McEveley is a solid defender who did fairly well overall at Swindon. He actually signed whilst Paolo Di Canio was in charge and at the time, Swindon were paying decent wages. Lad at work says his release from Swindon was likely to be as much about his wages as it was anything else and said he would have kept him.

I didn't realise but apparently he has been on trial with MK Dons this pre season.

If they are not available, it might have been better not to sell a better player who we already had under contract...

(and I know, he has a pesky agent, and he started to cry so we had to let him go, and Man Utd sold Ronaldo and all that shit)

Karl Robinson said he'd done well for them in pre season and mentioned FFP and their captain and regular left back Lewington as reasons for not signing him.

[CONFIRMED] 1 year contract

Is this seriously the best calibre of players we can attract? For all the optimism of end of last season, it's been such an underwhelming summer of transfer activity. Are we going to get our pacy striker we so desperately need, I have my doubts..... :(

Clough has a funny sense of priorities...

OR. Clough is a vastly experienced football manager with an intimate knowledge of the squad at his disposal and a clear idea of where and how it needs improving/re-inforcing. He is aware that other areas of the pitch also need addressing and has several targets from the Premier League and Championship lined up, but feels the loan market will offer better quality and value for money.

We shall see.

This is becoming a transfer window to rival Micky Adam's unlamented one for a series of choices as equally mystifying as they are uninspiring.

Dont be stupid......

Not inspiring but looks steady enough with a good pedigree as cover for Harris.

Would have preferred a younger, quicker player who can get forward, infact Freeman would have been ideal it's a shame Derby played hardball as I reckon the signings of him & Bennett on loan would have at least got us abit excited - pacey young forward with a point to prove & a full back we know can do a good job defensively & is good going forward.

Still trust Clough to get it right however so far I'm unconvinced by Butler & Basham, I'm not writing 'em off yet mind

I know but 2 and a half million isn't bad, we could have kept him, not gone up then he would have gone for free anyway.

Underwhelming signing but we're a third tier club looking for a backup left back. The fact that he can cover at centre half makes me suspect that Andy Butler's influence may be limited: I'm beginning to wonder whether we're too big for Butler. Time will tell.
