With these big changes Wilder mentioned at the end of the season are actually going to turn out to be big changes, especially if we're willing to sell Brooks for 8-11mil to a team in the same league.
We all know Wilder can talk the talk, but a lot of the time it's just all fart no shit, but after the Brooks sale I was more optimistic than pessimistic which may seem crazy, cause Wilder is finally wiping his arse 😂

And I know we haven't even had any links to signings apart from Phillips which is a bit depressing but the Brooks transfer came from nowhere really, added with the possibility of new formations, the new coaching staff and getting shut of the deadwood and even rated players that won't fit this new system.

I find it quite exciting really, but maybe that's me trying to cheer myself up of the inevitable 19th placed finish with Cannon top goal scorer with 4.

Delusional.

New formations? Won’t happen, we’ll probably go back to 352, the formation that hasn’t yielded any form of results in years. The deadwood are here for a while, they’re on ling contracts and are truly shite. Can’t really see us adopting a new system, we’ve got a coach who’s rigid in what he wants, and doesn’t have the nous to change things mid game, let alone develop a new system before a balls been kicked.

Sounds negative, but that’s just the harsh reality, sorry I can’t see positivity in selling one of maybe two players capable of attacking teams and doing things outside the system.

The way you think all doom and gloom shall we sell all the players because according to you everything is being done the wrong way
Remember the club is owned by some Americans who will sanction whatever they want and if Chris doesn't agree he is only the manager not financially involved just a paid(well paid) employee
I really don't think that the owners are hell bent on ruining this club of ours thay have too much money involved
Brooks was good but certainly not all of the time I have no doubt that there is all ready a plan formulated and costed
Cheers and UTB

Sell someone good (it's the owners fault)
Sign someone good (well done Wilder)

Owners will never win, the Prince didn't and now look at the people that slagged him off.

While im really fucked off with the Brooks sale I’m trying to keep my bed sheets dry until the end of the window to assess what the final squad looks like.

Brooks going has broken up the main thing I enjoyed about last season and that was the brooks and Seriki partnership. It really wouldn’t surprise me if Seriki wasn’t next out the door for wilder to go all in on a Kyle Walker come back.

I’ve lost a lot of trust over the last few seasons in both wilder and the club in terms of recruitment. We clearly don’t cast our net wide enough. We are always extreamly reactive in our decision making with seemingly very little future planning. We’ve wasted a metric fuck ton of cash on some absolute dross and we seem intent on continuing to do that by looking at aging potentially injury prone old journey men now.

If Brooks going paves the way for a Jack Clarke coming in and a new contract for Hamer then I might feel a bit differently later in the window. Though I was more settled on the idea that Gus would leave and we would try and keep Brooks and replacing a perm with another loan again just shows no future planning.

I feel like we’ll end up a solid-ish, boring, uninspiring lower mid table side because we struggle to score.

It’s odd.. the last time I was this unenthusiastic about an upcoming season was 2016-17 after the Adkins debacle.. we had just appointed ex player Chris Wilder as manager.. a man with no experience at managing at that level… I thought we are on an unending decline…. and it turned out that it would be one of our best seasons ever.

Now can history repeat itself? … that’s the big question..

This sums up my current view too.

Whilst I will always respect Wilder for what he has achieved at the club, I’ve lost a lot of faith in him over the last few seasons.

I genuinely hope he can turn this around but at this point in time I can’t see that happening.

Wilder should’ve walked a long time ago.

Brooks sale is unforgivable, especially to another championship club - fucking Norwich? Surely a prem club would’ve paid £8m for Brooks? I can’t see how Norwich is an upwards move? Sideways at very best. Good luck Brooks’s, you’re gonna need it.

But yeh, I’m not as positive as most. Like others have said, Wilder is rigid, tactically non-existent and can’t spot changes where changes need to be made.

However, will reserve further judgement until the window has closed, then again at 10 games in to see if the back room and playing staff changes are working because I really do think he’s not got much time.

It's a wait and see.

I don't see too much actual fact based cause for optimism at present but that doesn't mean that won't change by August.

those fans that have been around a while recognise this pattern/vibe around the club from the late 90s & 00s.

Based on recent behaviour and results I can't see how anyone has any faith in the board, recruitment team or coaching staff. At every available opportunity as a club we've made the wrong decision.

Norwich seemed to be on a good thing under Clement to be fair. Not a given it will happen next season though.

I've thought about the Brooks sale and actually it makes you wonder. You say surely a prem club would have paid £8m for him.
But clearly not, because they would have at least matched the bid and Brooks would likely have preferred to go up to the PL to have another crack at it.

I too expected more fee if he was to leave but I think it maybe shows where the footballing world see him right now?
Rising star? Yeah in the championship.
Potential to go higher and become a PL player? Yes but also not a given, could also remain a good top half champ player.

At that point 8m rising to 10m (Might not see that) is perhaps not that bad.

I think it's still June and Andre Brooks was nothing compared to previous players we have sold. It's a very tidy sum considering how inconsistent he is at 22 years old.

I am curious to see who we get in and just hope it's not more crocks/projects even though there is half a chance Phillips could do well for us.

It's not a tidy sum at all. For a 22 year old athletic and creative English player with a lot of potential and now a lot of experience in the Championship with 2 years left on a contract.

15m is getting to be in the conversation for a tidy sum, 8 or 9m isn't.

He isn't worth 15million and isn't "English" in the football sense anymore, he declared for Jamaica and played for them so that wiped off any English tax on his transfer fee.

Maybe we have a sell on fee that tops it up if Norwich do sell him for more. 🤷‍♂️

Spot on. It would be nice when we sell a player like this to have a replacement in quickly. However United will wait till deadline day to get a loan in. There has consistently been no long term plan, just constant fire fighting. This is why so many call for a DOF but United seem to refuse to modernise.

If we do get a loan player to replace Brooks, I cannot see how that benefits the club in any way.

Go on Dane, just for me, just this once, say something nice and positive, rather then the constant moaning and bitching. I know you have it within you, go on, do it.

I like trains.

You say "constant moaning" - What the actual fuck have the club done recently to be positive about? lol.

Been thinking the same.

Generally all the best seasons I’ve had watching SUFC have come off the back of a fairly uninspiring preceding season.

Re Brooks - it’s disappointing but for now I’ll allow myself some some hope that getting this done early rather than dragging on til the end of the window is a sign of getting the squad reshape done sharpish.

Creative? The kid had 2 assists. Pretty sure Brugge offered 5mil last season so to get double that is a good amount even if the club is in the same league or not.

This is pretty much my view, looking at it half full for a change this time. Also hoping new people around Wilder will change his methods a bit. We shall see

Depends on what formation is Plan A (we have no Plan B so don't need to worry about that) - if we are going 3-5-2 we probably do need to add some depth in there. But it depends again are we putting square pegs about as if so then probably concentrate on defence and play Cannon in a position he isn't designed to play in so we have a scape goat

If we think back to 2018, when we sold the original Brooks (David) to fund the next season's promotion to the Premier League, that didn't work out too badly, did it? And as Brooks is a product of our youth academy, the £8M is classed as pure profit in FFP world I think.

It's a reasonable point and not one I have seen much made of, but lots of potential Jamaica call ups probably does reduce Brooks' availability. Probably also involve a lot of travelling/potential for injury. Declaring for a country, and then being a 'bit part player' that is half way across the other side of the world has risks (see problems with Souttar)

We wouldn't get a brass farthing for Hamer - the acquiring club would have no upside - he's in his downward trajectory.
So , we have to sell a player who's on his way up and keep one that's on his way down.
Feckin brilliant - so inspiring.
The only bit of exciting offensive play in our side (Brooks & Seriki) to be replaced by the likes of Kalvin feckin Philips on the treatment table or suspended (along with Gus Yellow Card Hamer.
Here comes the 7 years of famine - will it be in this league or L1 ?
Money spent and shit recruitment.
Distant half-baked owners buying us a beefburger and telling us they've phoned Billy Sharp.
It's surreal.

Nope, he's still classed as a "homegrown player" if that's what you meant by "English tax"?

Wilder will change his methods ?
Well
I suppose he must
He can't dance drunk on tables and call the pigs manager a sausage roll.
The rest will be same old same old
