Joking aside, I would like us to sign Souttar. Still need at least one new striker too though.

Contact at Leicester reckons he’s coming for £3m this window. Just waiting on my source to give more background. He messaged me this morning out of the blue that it’s happening.
If he has a good World Cup then he will have better offers out there.

It's certainly a strong spine if they are all fit and firing. Assuming Hamer and Peck are sold:

COOPER
WALKER - SOUTTAR - LCB
SERIKI - PHILLIPS - CM - BURROWS
BROOKS - O'HARE
BAMFORD
The spot next to Phillips needs to be an athletic player capabale of the box-to-box role.

If we are going 3 at the back then I wouldn't be against Hjelde coming in as first choice LCB. Just trying to thing of other decent left-footed CB's - Jacob Greaves, Cameron Burgess, Matt Clarke, Aaron Cresswell (old), Callum Doyle, Eiran Cashin - there's not a massive pool of talent out there
We’d have to sell first to be able to buy any of those on that list…in the meantime there’s RND

Source has confirmed about 80% trust in info. He’s close at Leicester and I don’t talk to him very often, it would be out of character to billy bullshit.

A done deal or have we not bid yet?

Source is pretty confident it’s done. I asked for confidence rating and he said 8/10. We’ll see I guess but he’s not been far wrong before on other matters, especially around Leicester.
Thanks mate. Fingers crossed :)

Leicester do need to raise funds and I don't think he has ever been a regular for them.

I also doubt Harry wants to be playing League 1 football at this moment in his career either.

True but 2 of the worse kind ... an ACL and achilles. Hes exactly what we need but we'll be holding our breath every time he goes down if we do sign him.
This.

Every time Tom Davies tackled, turned or put his hands through his hair aggressively I wondered how many games he’d be out for. Souttar would give me similar vibes.

Agree, get Harry back, Kyle, Billy or just stick with what we have at least Tom still had his hair, we aint rich

We have to be careful of making this the be all and end all of our signings, if he gets injured we're knackered again, he had a great impact when he came in, but who's to say that someone else would/ wouldn't have had that impact at the time.

What? Like (early) Binden, McGutless and Tanganga?

Agree that we shouldn’t have this as the marquee signing but the lad has form with us and if he’s keen to rejoin because he’s had such a positive experience then it’s a risk worth managing.

Contrast the risk with paying £5m for McGuinness, who I have never rated and it turned out I was 100 correct. What a waste of money he’s been.

On Binden. I was a harsh critic of his to begin with as I saw nothing in him. He improved immeasurably when he got his chance in the team, later on, but he was not the sort of completely dominant presence that Souttar has been. I now believe Binden has a decent ceiling and can have a decent career in the game. He’ll need someone like Souttar next to him, mind.

Like any other transfer we just need to do our due diligence and pay a fair value. Unfortunately over the last couple of years we haven’t been great at either of those.

I don’t think Souttar is particularly injury prone the same way a lot of players are, but he’s had two potentially career ending injuries. You can either see this as him being resilient (being able to recover from these) or a risk (something else may go pop). A thorough medical and training regime suited to his body would mitigate any risk but again, as a club, we’re just not set up to operate like that.

Asking him to give up international football would probably help, then he's not flying half way round the world every few months.

What annoyed me about the crocks we signed was that we had our parachute £ and should not have been fishing in that pond.

Now that we're well and truly skint , it's probably necessary for us to look at players who have a risk of injury , in order to get any kind of quality.
The ones without injury or physical deficiency are probably unaffordable.

This puts us in a bit of a Catch 22.
Just when we can't afford to waste our limited £ , we are forced by the market to take the risk of wasting it.
