7 goals from the wing last season for Derby.

SUFC comparison:
  • Brooks - 6 goals
  • Hamer - 5 goals
If Hamer goes, BBD is a decent enough replacement and would allow us to play a more out-and-out winger on each side (Brooks on right).
If Hamer stays, BBD is a good challenger for the LW, or would allow Hamer to drift around more centrally

Looking at this in isolation before any other recruitment is done, he's not be the worst signing and if financially he's sitting in the middle of the earners, he would be fine.

A known quantity in positive and negative respects and would bring experience. The way you describe the options with him, i agree.

If he's the top signing of the summer for us, i'd be surprised.

Hope not need to stop harping on to the past and try new players
We need to move forward not backwords
There does have to be a balanced recruitment. Remember last season we brought in Louie Barry, a player that just ran and couldn't deliver.

Last summer the club talked about the age of players and we ended up with no new experienced players coming into the side and that lack of experience cost us.

As i say, balanced recruitment

Until there are serious changes in the structure at the club we’ll continue to be linked with everyone who’s ever played with us.

We’ve obviously got a very limited scouting department with a very specific list of criteria.

Going to be a loooong summer with a load of old names regurgitated over and over again. On the other hand there’s also no point in worrying about it until the squad is finalised and we know what we’re working with. Like him or not, Wilder will put together an unimaginative but competitive side, unlikely to have much resale value / future potential but effective.

His last season with us he was garbage, no interest, no pace no heart and apparently according to Derby fans he has not improved.
Does Wilder only look in his phone book of players who have played for him
A few experienced players I. E. The spine of the team I agree with. Other than that we need players who are likely to improve, have a resale value oh and pace, that assett which Wilder does not seem to consider
No heart is harsh, I think he really gets the club. If Wilder plays him on his preferred side on the left than I'm in favour. He played a lot on the right last season for Derby meaning he's cutting in to his weaker foot. On the left and cutting inside to his right foot he can be devastating.

He's still got 3/4 years left. I also want him to sign because he plays for child due to my own family heritage but that's btw!

Vamos La Roja!

Just on your point I unimaginative, if Wilder had stayed last season and we'd signed Darling and Dunne who were strongly linked as coming until Wilder was sacked and no doubt McBurnie I think there's a strong chance we'd have gone up last season or certainly in the play offs. We need some experience and experienced championship quality and I think we'll be right up there. It might be unimaginative but it's what we need more than anything else.

I do think we could look into the foreign market more like what Millwall did with Zian Flemming for example but there's some dross too that comes over and does little but take a wage such as Ivo Grbic! Nobody knows who signed him but I still doubt it was Wilder.

For me, there needs to be a balance and right now we just can’t strike it.

Our transfer windows always seem to be mostly reactive. We’ve got an injury so let’s plug a gap. We’ve sold someone so let’s sign a replacement.

Transfers like those are essential but a lot of what we bring in has already peaked. That means they’ve not only peaked in terms of their income so we’re paying top wages it also means we are never likely to make a profit.

Last summer was weighted wayyy to heavily towards aiming for potential future profit and was clearly done very badly and then most windows under wilder seem to be aimed at the established and experienced players he either knows or play in his way.

We need to balance the big wages of established players with a conveyor belt of younger players with high ceiling to try and profit on.

Peck for example has been a pretty phenomenal punt by wilder and his team to give him credit. 150k out of arsenals academy. Hes improved the team while he’s been here and we probably make £15m on him this summer.

I wouldn't mind BBD as a squad player. Covers a couple of positions to a decent enough level.
If Wilder likes him as a character, I see no issues with it.

If we're relying on him as a starter, then we're not serious about promotion... but maybe we're not? We're out of parachute money, so maybe we all need to reset our expectations..

What would that rumour give us?

G: Cooper, Davies
D: Seriki, Shackleton, Walker, Souttar, Tanganga, McGuinness, Baptiste, McCallum, Burrows
M: Arblaster, Phillips, Rothwell, Matos
AM/W: Brooks, O’Hare, BBD, Chong, Marsh
CF: Bamford, Cannon, Oné

Leaving for cash: Hamer, Peck, Campbell

If you can trade up one or two then I’d not be surprised if we end up with something like that.

That midfield is laughably shit.

Might just keep us up😥

Sorry to pick you up on this but I was curious so looked it up - Peck joined United July 2021, so Wilder likely had no involvement in bringing him to the club. Probably more whoever had responsibility for the academy at the time - Heckingbottom? Geary?

He was a academy signing so it's down to their recruitment team ,pretty sure there would have been no first team manager Influence

After he barely pulled his finger out in his second spell, please no. But this is wilder we’re talking about.

Sarcasm is great... if it makes any sense.

Norwood is 35 and been in League 1 for 3 years
Fleck is 35 in August and just released by a League 2 club.

Neither are 27 and still scoring in the Championship
It was tongue in cheek, although I’m sure some on here would still have Norwood playing for us🤦‍♂️

What would make sense is shitting out both Cannon and Chong and replacing them with just one player in BBD

Save money, condense the squad, and cover their positions with someone who is better than them

It would make more sense to do the same with a better player than BBD

Off the top of my head I'd rather have Karlan Grant. He can still run, and plays at least LW and CF. Think he's on a free

Hope not. Be a poor use of dwindling funds. Slow, weak and getting worse. He has no resale and no fixed position. If this is true, wonder why we have a scouting team?
Wilder plays him on the right
