I was more of an alcohol by any delivery method possible hedonist until the early 2010s. So it was only really the Brazil 2014 World Cup that I've had a serious go a Beer Hunting and Ticking.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Brazil Craft Beer "scene". Firstly, hunting down microbreweries was a great way of getting off the tourist route and meeting some local geezers. Secondly, and more importantly, some absolute belter beers out there.

Can't believe that no-one has mentioned the 1974 World Cup in West Germany. I was only 14 at the time but I was mesmerised by the "total football" played by the Dutch team, particularly the fabulous Johann Cruyff. A lot of people say that that best team never to win the World Cup was Brazil in 1982 but in my opinion, it was Holland in 1974. Absolute class they were.

Hungary in 1954 must be worth a shout. They only lost one game in six tears, the world cup final, to a team they put eight past in the group stage. They also gave England two absolute bummings in that time.

Yes, Puskas played with an injury in the final. Hungary led 2-0 then the Germans scored three times. Near the end the Hungarians had "a good goal" disallowed by the English ref

This is the first time during a run up to a World Cup where I have next to no enthusiasm. That might change once it starts, but I have my doubts. Normally a World Cup makes my summer.

Likewise. I can't raise much enthusiasm for this one. The first one I watched was 1966 and one snippet I remember was Dad spending the afternoon gardening and we had to go out and tell him we'd won.

As for the USA, no doubt we'll have to suffer Trump muscling in at every opportunity.
