So what happens to Faxon ? if the lad isn't deemed good enough/ or been given a chance will he be realsed or remain in the U21s
He won’t be released we should look to bring in a competent senior 3rd keeper behind Davies if Davies is staying.

Wilder has consistently throughout all his spells here wanted 3 keepers in the senior squad but we haven’t ever recruited a third keeper.

This meant Eastwood hung around playing very little football and not developing and Faxon is now getting the same treatment.

In my opinion young keepers need to play men’s football and get used to playing infront of hostile crowds against men who will spend 90 minutes trying to rough them up and unsettle them.

It normally goes badly for the first year or two and then they find their feet and kick on or don’t and drop out of the game. Faxon has real talent he’s excellent on the ball and an athletic shot stopper he deserves the opportunity to go and play men’s football and see if he can stake a claim for a first team slot here or elsewhere.

Wilder won’t play him unless he gets experience and he won’t get experience here watching from the stands.

United also have other keepers coming up behind him who we will want to give 21’s experience to. He’s in real danger of being squeezed out of getting minutes and being left to stagnate and putting aside the fact that that’s bad management of a potentially value asset by the club it’s also a bad look he put his faith in United amidst interest from elsewhere when he signed a deal to handle his development in this way would be a bad look and potentially show others that their development might be best served elsewhere which as a Cat 2 academy would make holding onto players even harder

Faxon did not seem to have a good game on the u21 highlights. Edit: Just a statement, not a judgement. Not good timing though.

Doesn’t surprise me he’s already been hanging around for 2 years now I’m not advocating for him to start for us right now just pointing out that he is another youngster who’s development has been stifled by the desire for first team depth.

We should’ve been looking to loan him out after he committed his future here and signed his deal he’d already proven everything he needed to at 21’s level at that point. If he’s stagnated or gone backwards in the intervening period I wouldn’t be shocked but also wouldn’t want to judge him on one game

I did edit this afterwards as didn't mean it to be such a blunt statement. You're right.

Davies is shocking, he fills the team with apprehension , cant handle dead ball situations, he must be bloody good in the dressing room to be offered any contract at all.
Just conceded 6 goals in 2 home games and gets a contract, surely there are better goalies than him about.

What goalie would have made the slightest difference to those last two games? Courtois maybe would stop one or two, otherwise it's the same scoreline or same outcome.
Placing 6 at his door is ridiculous.

Where are you finding a competent senior keeper who’s happy to be 3rd choice at a championship club?

Then once you’ve found them, where is the extra money for their wages coming from?

Having 2 first choice keepers fighting to be no1 with a competent senior 3rd choice is just a delusional dream for a championship.

As I’ve said before, some clubs in the EFL don’t even have a decent 2nd choice and plan to rely on emergency loans if their first choice gets injured the just use academy lads on the bench knowing they’ll only ever get minutes if the first choice gets injured mid-game

If Cooper is injured/unfit/out of form are we really happy with Davies for a number of games?
Absolutely not.

We're really quite good at the stifling of late, aren't we??

If that’s the case then we need to be happy with running with two senior keepers in the squad not 3. It’s not an issue having the 21’s keeper travel on matchdays as the emergency three if you're not keeping him in the building to be that three at the detriment of his development opportunities elsewhere which is what we have done under Wilder and Heckingbottom and are doing now.

It’s now a pattern of us putting the keeper who’s outgrown the 21’s in limbo which is bad asset management.

Maybe the defenders would defend better if they had confidence in the guy behind them ?
The defenders seem to have plenty of confidence in the keeper, given the number of forwards they fail to bother marking, the number of free headers they allow in the box, and their lethargy in making any effort to block crosses. Why should they bother when they have a keeper like that behind them?! 😉

if we’re keeping Davies then we need to get Faxon out on loan and Grbic sold ASAFP.

There’s a few prem experienced goalkeepers out of contract (e.g. Forster) that would be way better options.
