Just throwing the names I’ve heard about earlier today (hopefully absolute nonsense but you never know).

Phillips back on loan, Hamza and Souttar back, Souza back. Heard it from someone who’s “good friends with someone at the top”.

Hoping it’s absolute nonsense myself, Souza is literally the only one I’d be moderately interested in, however I’d have hoped we’d actually do some actual scouting rather than looking back at the previous page in the book.

Phillips and Souttar are expensive gambles.

Both fit and on form they are amongst the best players in the division, and would make for a formidable spine. They both play 35+ games and I’d back us for a very good season.

However I’d wager they’d not manage 35 games between them, and that’s a lot of budget for what is likely minimal returns.

How top are we talking, the very top, or top echelons? I love shit like this so please keep them coming 😂

Phillips is the gamble worth taking. Could go either way but on paper there's no reason it shouldn't work out. He has undoubted quality that a club like United will always struggle to acquire. Souttar has had various serious issues and has a big, heavy frame which increases the likelihood of it happening again. That's if he's even the same player.

Trust in Wilders gambles 😍

Not like he’s well known for pulling them off…

I'd say the last 4 months are a decent reason why it shouldn't work out, no?

I’ll take it that this is a serious post. Hasn’t the last four months shown he’s physically not up to it? If that hasn’t, his spell at West Ham, or Ipswich should definitely indicate he’s not worth anywhere near the fee and or wages he’ll be asking. Blokes a busted flush.

He has no history of serious injuries I'm aware of?. If he comes in the summer you'd think he'd be up to speed. He's a decent age and has less wear and tear than most footballers due to the Man City situation. His quality is undeniable. On paper it seems a no brainer if you can get him on loan on a Championship wage.Every signing is a gamble. I'm more in favour of getting him in the summer than I would be in Jan. Same with all players that aren't playing.

As ever only half hearted from United.
If we are serious about being there, and not thereabouts, next season where’s the other half of that list?
I’m bewitched, buggered and bewildered there’s no mention of: McGuire, Walker, McBurnie, Norwood, Ben Slimane and where on earth is Bim Pepple?

Hmm, not convinced. He's essentially done nowt for 3 seasons, even when given opportunities elsewhere. You could argue it can be difficult for a loanee to get up to speed, especially when they're so undercooked so to speak, and whilst I agree with you that transfers are essentially always a gamble, this is too much of an expensive hit and hope one to me.

That's just it. It depends how expensive it is compared to alternatives. I think he'll have better options probably from parachute or newly promoted clubs so it's probably an irrelevant conversation.

i do wonder if we scout at all. as it feels like we do this purely on reputation. i was thinking how did swansea know that vipononik was available on a free from bordeaux & we had never heard of him

If Phillips comes under the same loan details ! That has to be a good deal.No way we would take him if not fit.A stiff medical is key ! Passes that and we have a quality player at a cut price.
Kyle Walker will be similar wages we can afford on the back of a regerous medical .if true to bring in them two really says the owners are are backing Wilder.
